Texas mentioned twice in Bleacher Report’s best games of 2021
Texas’ season did not go as planned during Steve Sarkisian’s first year with the program.
After making a quarterback change during the second game and first loss of the season, Texas went on what would be their longest win streak, which would then be followed by a record long losing streak.
The team clearly had major flaws throughout the roster as it seemed the running backs and Xavier Worthy were the lone bright spots the majority of the year.
Even in each of the losses, Texas was able to keep all but two of them close. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is up to you, but the Longhorns did have multiple chances to win in every loss.
Bleacher Report released their 10 best games of the 2021 college football regular season, and Texas graced the list twice. Now granted both of them were losses, but nonetheless they were great games.
At No. 8 was the matchup against Kansas that saw Texas overcome a 21-point deficit, and eventually force the game to go to overtime. After a Texas touchdown in overtime, the Jayhawks decided to go for two, where they would throw it to walk-on tight end Jared Casey for the game winner.
Texas’ other feature on the list is probably the more painful loss, as it was the Red River Showdown. This was the first of many blown leads for Texas, as they led by 21 points in the first quarter, and went into halftime leading by 18. After Oklahoma pulled starting quarterback Spencer Rattler, Caleb Williams did the unthinkable and willed the Sooners back to win the game 55-48.
Both games that Texas would likely love to forget, but they were in fact great games, just not in favor of the Longhorns.
