Texas F Timmy Allen OUT against Oklahoma State on Thursday

Texas will be without senior forward Timmy Allen for its Big 12 tournament matchup with Oklahoma State on Thursday night.

The university reports Allen is “day to day” with a lower right leg injury.

Allen has been a key contributor for the Longhorns over the past two seasons. The former Utah transfer is averaging over 11 points and six rebounds per game in over 60 starts for Texas.

Not having Allen opens the door for Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year Sir’Jabari Rice to slide into the starting lineup. Freshman Dillon Mitchell and senior Christian Bishop will be tasked with a more significant role in the front court.

Texas swept Oklahoma State during the regular season and looks to advance to the Big 12 semifinals with another win. The Cowboys are on the NCAA bubble, needing a victory to feel good about its chances on selection Sunday.

Getting Allen back by the NCAA Tournament is a priority for Rodney Terry and Texas basketball, even if that means playing in the Big 12 tournament shorthanded.
