Chiefs Charles Omenihu injury update: Texas alum to miss Super Bowl with torn ACL

The AFC Championship Game featured some Texas alum including Justin Tucker, Devin Duvernay and Chiefs defensive lineman Charles Omenihu, who had a strip sack on Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. He played a big role in the Chiefs' 17-10 win on Sunday that led them to yet another Super Bowl appearance.

However, Omenihu, who hit career-highs with seven sacks and 28 total tackles this year despite playing in only 11 games, will not be making an appearance. It was announced Monday that the Longhorn suffered a torn ACL in the win.

Chiefs' Charles Omenihu injury update

Omenihu's sack would be the final play he made in the Championship game. Soon after in the second quarter, he suffered a non-contact injury that sent him to the locker room. The Chiefs listed him as questionable to return, and Omenihu himself seemed to know that the injury was significant as he showed frustration on the sidelines after leaving the field.

While in Austin, Omenihu collected 90 tackles, 13 sacks and two forced fumbles in four years. He was drafted in the fifth round by the Texans and spent three years there before being traded to the 49ers. This past offseason, he signed a two-year contract with the Chiefs that could be worth up to $20 million.

He was suspended for the first six games of the 2023 season due to a domestic violence charge.
