Texans QB Davis Mills at the bottom of ‘Keyshawn, JWill & Max’ second-year QB rankings

The Houston Texans and Davis Mills will have to start from the bottom in 2022.

The moribund franchise has posted two straight four-win seasons as the club enters its second season with general manager Nick Caserio at the helm. Houston is also on its second coach in as many seasons with Lovie Smith, who is on his third NFL team. Mills is entering his second season after coming out of Stanford as a third-round pick, and posting a 2-9 record in his rookie campaign.

On the “Keyshawn, JWill & Max” show on ESPN Radio, former Super Bowl champion receiver Keyshawn Johnson did not really give a reason why Mills was at the bottom of his six-player rankings, but he also didn’t exactly criticize Mills either.

“Davis Mills sitting at No. 6 for the Houston Texans,” Johnson said. “A lot of people wonder why the Texans didn’t go after a veteran quarterback in the trade with Deshaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns, picking up Baker Mayfield. That’s because they believe in Davis Mills. They believe he had a pretty good year last year, came along near the end of the year, and they can grow into his second season, that he can have an even better year. That’s one of the reasons they didn’t select a quarterback at the top of the draft.”

The top quarterback was Jacksonville Jaguars signal caller Trevor Lawrence. No. 2 on the list was Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields. Mac Jones of the New England Patriots was No. 3. The New York JetsZach Wilson was No. 4. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance was No. 5.
