Terrell Owens graciously accepts Hall of Fame ring, doesn't regret skipping Canton

Terrell Owens famously snubbed the Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremony in Canton, Ohio this summer, fuming over waiting to be enshrined on his third ballot.

While the official ceremony barely acknowledged Owens, he gave his own speech at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.

Owens puts animosity aside

Owens took a more amicable approach to the Hall of Fame ring ceremony at halftime of Thursday’s San Francisco 49ers win over the Oakland Raiders.

Owens not only showed up, but spoke lovingly about his time with the 49ers while donning his gold jacket and standing next to his bust after accepting his ring from Hall president David Baker.

“This is awesome,” Owens told the Associated Press before the game. “This is an opportunity to give something to the fans. Ever since I left in 2003 and went on and did some great things, but this is where it started, my first eight years of my career.”

No regrets over Hall feud for Owens

While Owens and the Hall feuded, Baker took an approach of understanding to Owens’ emotion over the summer, acknowledging that Owens felt disrespected.

While Thursday’s ceremony saw a beaming Owens proud of where he was, he said there was no looking back on skipping the Canton festivities.

“No regrets at all,” Owens told AP. “If anybody knows who Terrell Owens is outside the media portrayal of me throughout the course of my career, they know what I did. I stand by what I did.”

After a contentious back and forth between the two sides, it appears that Owens and the Hall can coexist.
