Davis, Sabonis power Kings in dominating win over Wizards originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

When Terence Davis' number is called, he answers.

After playing fewer than 20 minutes in the Kings' last 10 games, Davis made the most of his opportunity off the bench in Sacramento's 132-118 win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday at Capital One Arena.

"As soon as I checked in, I think I got a great look. It didn't fall but it was a great look," Davis told Mark Jones and Kayte Christensen on "Kings Postgame Live." "Next time down, I got an even wide-open look and it fell.

"Once you get maybe one or two wide-open looks, especially as a shooter, you kind of feel good once you see the ball go in and that's what happened tonight."

In almost 30 minutes off the bench for the Kings (43-27) in place of the injured Kevin Huerter, Davis had 21 points, seven rebounds and two steals. He also went 8-of-13 from the field and nailed five of his seven 3-point attempts against the Wizards (32-39).

Davis added that his teammates pushed him to keep firing, regardless of what the result was.

"My teammates kept telling me to shoot every time I at least thought I was open so they gave me a lot of confidence," Davis continued. "They're on me about shooting the ball and not putting it on the floor as much."

Kings rookie Keegan Murray noticed how well Davis played despite the latter's lack of action in the games leading up to Saturday's contest.

"TD's had a rough couple weeks so far but I feel like he's always ready, always aggressive when he's in the game, things like that," Murray said to reporters postgame. "So it's cool to see him be successful tonight and his confidence grow."

Furthermore, Kings coach Mike Brown echoed Murray's assessment of Davis' play.

"We kind of threw him in the game against Brooklyn for a few minutes and then started him in the second half and I don't think he came back in after he started," Brown told reporters. "He's just a guy that continually keeps themselves ready. He hit some timely shots for us.

"He had seven boards tonight, which was fantastic to see. So he was big."

Speaking of 'big,' Domantas Sabonis continued his torrid pace to end the 2022-23 NBA season.

Two days after a 24-point, 21-rebound night against the Brooklyn Nets, Sabonis had another masterful performance, compiling 30 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, one steal and one block against the Wizards.

It was not easy for Sabonis, however, as Washington played very physical in an effort to stop the 26-year-old. At one point, Sabonis hurt his left hand, although he was able to stay in the game.

"Yeah, I think we have a different type of toughness in our group, leading with Domas, just what he's gone through this year," Murray said. "Being able to watch him be successful this year, even with his injuries has been really cool to see and I feel like that's translated to the rest of our team."

Brown also applauded his All-Star center's effort despite being banged up.

"I mean, what would you say about Domas? He's getting hit in the head, getting knocked on the ground and he just keeps coming and coming and coming," Brown said. "I got to keep constantly reminding guys that he is an All-NBA guy and tonight in a way, when you get 30, 9, 9 on 12 shots, that's just a reminder that he's that guy."

In all, Davis thinks the Kings are heeding the message Brown instilled in them coming out of All-Star weekend, which has led Sacramento to an 11-2 record after the break.

"We're just approaching it at a different level -- guys stepped up," Davis said. "We just got a lot of great guys on this team and we just look forward to the next game.

"We know what's in front of us and we're starting to accomplish that."

As the Kings jostle with the Memphis Grizzlies for the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, it is clear that anyone can provide a scoring punch on any given night for Sacramento.

And against the Wizards on Saturday, Davis answered the call.
