Tennessee Titans hosted 6 players for tryouts on Friday

The Tennessee Titans are exploring their options at multiple positions ahead of their preseason Week 3 contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday night.

According to the league’s transactions wire, the Titans hosted six for tryouts Friday, including quarterback Kurt Benkert, defensive backs Jamar Johnson and Troy Pride, and wide receivers Jaquarii Roberson, Vyncint Smith and Dazz Newsome. We wrote about Benkert’s tryout earlier in the day.

The most experienced of the wide receivers is Smith, who has appeared in 29 games over four seasons, one of which was spent with the Houston Texans, and the other three with the New York Jets.

Smith’s best season came in 2019 with the Jets, when he tallied 17 receptions for 225 yards. He was most recently on the offseason roster of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being cut a few days ago.

A 2020 fourth-round pick of the Carolina Panthers, Pride played in 14 games (eight starts) in his rookie season, tallying 42 combined tackles and a pair of passes defensed. He missed all of 2021 with a torn ACL and was cut by Carolina in May.

Tennessee has been busy in the defensive back market recently, but the Titans exploring their options at quarterback and wide receiver is something new.

Perhaps the Titans aren’t happy with their current depth options, or maybe the team is looking ahead to potential practice squad candidates before that group is chosen on Wednesday, Aug. 31, the day after final cuts.
