Tennessee football sells out season tickets for 2023 schedule at Neyland Stadium

Tennessee has sold out of football season tickets for the third time since 2001, capping sales at 70,500 for the upcoming season.

There are only single-game tickets remaining to fill the 101,915 capacity at Neyland Stadium for the 2023 season. And there’s a waiting list for season tickets, if any come available, at UTsports.com/seasontickets.

The Vols kick off the season against Virginia on Sept. 2 in Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Their home games include Austin Peay (Sept. 9), UTSA (Sept. 23), South Carolina (Sept. 30), Texas A&M (Oct. 14), UConn (Nov. 4), Georgia (Nov. 18) and Vanderbilt (Nov. 25).

UT also sold out season tickets in 2001 and 2016.

This continues the Vols’ season ticket surge since athletics director Danny White and coach Josh Heupel arrived two years ago. In 2021, UT sold 52,236 season tickets. In 2022, it increased to 61,490.

Last season, the Vols went 11-2, beat Clemson in the Orange Bowl and finished No. 6 in the College Football Playoff poll for arguably their best season since winning the 1998 national title.

Fans responded with a 96% season ticket renewal rate, and more than 9,000 additional tickets were sold for the 2023 season.

“Vol Nation continues to show the entire nation why they are the best fan base in college sports,” White said in a UT news release. “To be sold out of season tickets for the 2023 season is a testament to their unbridled passion and support of Tennessee football. We can’t wait to see all our loyal fans on Rocky Top this fall.”

UT’s strategic plan, which was created in 2022, set a goal of 70,000 season tickets sold in the 2026 season. It had only hoped to reach 61,000 by the 2023 season.

At the height of Butch Jones’ tenure, there were 73,116 season tickets sold. It declined each season from there until attendance was limited during the pandemic in the 2020 season. But now it's bounced back.

Here are the season ticket sales figures from the past nine seasons:

• 2015: 67,257• 2016: 73,116• 2017: 69,073• 2018: 65,435• 2019: 62,560• 2020: Limited capacity due to pandemic• 2021: 52,236• 2022: 61,490• 2023: 70,500
