TE Zach Ertz headed to injured reserve with quad injury

The Arizona Cardinals are losing another starter to injury. The latest is tight end Zach Ertz. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero, the Cardinals will place him on injured reserve for a quad injury he sustained during Sunday’s 20-10 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

It means that he will miss at least the next four games. The Cardinals face the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans over the next four weeks.

The earliest he would return would be in Week 12 to face the Los Angeles Rams at home.

It is the second consecutive season he lands on injured reserve. He came back from a torn ACL.

Through seven games, Ertz has 27 receptions for 187 yards and a touchdown.

In his absence, it means a greater role for both Trey McBride and Geoff Swaim, with more opportunities for rookie Elijah Higgins, who made his NFL debut on Sunday.

Ertz joins running back James Conner on injured reserve.
