Tanner Holden enters the transfer portal

Depending on how you look at it, it’s either the gift that keeps giving or the Grinch that keeps stealing players away. We are of course talking about the transfer portal that continues to be a big part of college athletics, especially the revenue sports of football and basketball.

And while it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, the OSU football program hasn’t seen nearly as many defections as some of the other big-name college football teams. But that hasn’t been the case with the Buckeye hoops program. In fact, head coach Chris Holtmann has had a bit of a revolving door of players spinning in and out of the transfer portal during his time in Columbus.

The latest is guard Tanner Holden whose time on the banks of the Olentangy was short-lived. After playing for Wright State for three seasons, the Wheelersburg, Ohio, native transferred to Ohio State last season but saw action sparingly. He is no doubt best well-known for his buzzer-beater against Rutgers early in the year, but he struggled to find a high-exposure role with last year’s team that struggled.

Holden did play in 27 games but averaged just 3.6 points per contest on an average of 13.6 minutes of action. That comes on the heels of scoring 20.1 points per game with the Raiders.

We wish Holden only the best and hopefully, he gets what he wants out of his last year of eligibility.
