Taking over for Orlando: McDowell to elevate football assistant Aaron Slocum to head coach

It took less than one month for McDowell to find its next head football coach as longtime assistant Aaron Slocum will be submitted to the Millcreek School Board in two weeks.

Slocum, a former McDowell football standout, has been an assistant coach for the Trojans over the past 12 years.

“Coach Slocum has a very close relationship with his father, a well-known, successful coach. He’s worked under very successful coaches, so he has seen what it takes to lead a program, but I’m most excited and looking forward to Aaron putting his personal stamp on the program,” said McDowell athletic director Mark Becker. “He is passionate about football, but more so he’s passionate about relationships with his players and fellow coaches.”

Slocum's name will be submitted to the board on Feb. 12. He will be introduced as the next head coach on Friday at a news conference at McDowell High School.

Slocum replaces Brad Orlando, who resigned in early January after 10 seasons.

McDowell went 8-5 this past year and won its eighth District 10 championship under Orlando.
