Sub-state basketball brackets have been unveiled; Where every Topeka-area team will play

TOPEKA — Postseason basketball is finally here. After the conclusion of the regular season on Friday night, KSHSAA unveiled the sub-state bracket for each team. Check out where every Topeka-area team will begin their postseason journey below.

Washburn Rural

The Washburn Rural boys team will be the no. 9 seed in the Class 6A Sub-state bracket. The Junior Blues (10-10) will go on the road to no. 8 Wichita Southeast (11-9). The game will start at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner will face no. 1 Wichita Heights (19-1) or no. 16 Liberal (5-15) in the next round on Saturday.

The girls team is the no. 5 seed in the Class 6A Sub-state bracket. The Junior Blues (13-7) will host no. 12 Wichita Northwest (5-15) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The winner will face no. 4 Wichita South (13-7) or no. 13 Dodge City (5-15) on Friday.

Topeka High

Topeka High boys did not qualify for the Class 6A Sub-state tournament. The Trojans (5-15) missed out on tiebreakers. They finished the season on a nine game losing streak.

On the girls side, Topeka High is the no. 11 seed with their 5-14 record. The Trojans will go on the road to no. 6 Manhattan (10-10) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The winner will face no. 3 Liberal (14-6) or no. 14 Wichita North (3-17) on Friday.

Highland Park

Highland Park boys are the no. 1 seed in their Class 5A Sub-state bracket. The Scots enter with a 19-1 record. They will face no. 16 Turner (4-16) in the opening round. The game will be played at 7 p.m. at Topeka High due to their gym flooding. The winner will face no. 8 Kansas City Washington (12-8) or no. 9 Bonner Springs (12-8) on Friday.

On the girls side, Highland Park is the no. 3 seed with their 14-5 record. They take on no.14 Pittsburg (5-15) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The game will be played at Topeka West. The winner will face no. 6 Spring Hill (14-6) or no. 11 Blue Valley Southwest (10-10) on Saturday.

'Play to our strengths': This key aspect will help Washburn Rural girls in the postseason

Seaman

Seaman (9-11) boys are the no. 11 seed in the Class 5A Sub-state bracket. In the first round, they will go on the road and play Topeka West (13-7) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The winner will face no. 3 Andover (16-4) or no. 14 Salina Central (6-14) on Friday.

The girls team secured the coveted no. 1 seed with their 18-2 record. They will host JC Harmon (1-15) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner will take on no. 8 Basehor-Linwood (12-8) or no. 9 Sumner Academy (10-9) on Saturday.

Shawnee Heights

Shawnee Heights (17-3) boys will host no. 14 St. James Academy (4-16) in the opening round of Class 5A Sub-state action. The Thunderbirds are the no. 3 seed in the bracket and they tip off at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The winner will face no. 6 St. Thomas Aquinas (16-4) or no. 11 Sumner Academy (7-12).

The girls team is the no. 7 seed and will play inside their home gym in the opening round of Class 5A Sub-state action. The Thunderbirds (14-6) will face no. 10 Piper (10-10) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner will face no. 2 De Soto (17-3) or no. 15 Lansing (2-18) on Saturday.

Topeka West

On the boys side, the Chargers are the no. 6 seed and will host no.11 Seaman in the opening round of Class 5A Sub-state action. Topeka West (13-7) and the Vikings (9-11) will tip off at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The winner will face no. 3 Andover (16-4) or no. 14 Salina Central (6-14) on Friday.

No. 14 Topeka West (8-12) girls face no. 3 Emporia (19-1) in the first round of Class 5A Sub-state. The game will be hosted by Emporia with tip-off time at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner take on either no. 6 Great Bend (14-6) or no. 11 Salina Central (10-10) on Saturday.

Hayden boys basketball is the no. 6 seed in the Class 3A Sub-state bracket. They will face no. 3 Bishop Ward (11-8) in the first round at 7 p.m. on Monday. The game will be played at Turner High School. The winner will face no. 2 Perry-Lecompton (13-7) or no. 7 Royal Valley (4-16) on Thursday at Royal Valley.

On the girls side, the Wildcats are the no. 1 seed with a 16-3 record. They host no. 8 Bishop Ward (0-19) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The winner will take on either no. 4 Atchison County (6-12) or no. 5 Perry-Lecompton (6-14) at Royal Valley on Friday.

Rossville boys are the no. 2 seed in the Class 3A bracket. The Bulldawgs (14-6) will face no. 7 Riley County (7-12) in the opening round at 7 p.m. in the opening round action. The winner will face no. 3 Nemaha Central (14-6) or no. 6 Marysville (10-10) at Riley County High School on Thursday.

The girls team is the no. 3 seed in the Class 3A Sub-state bracket. Rossville (17-3) takes on no. 6 Riley County (11-8) in the opening round at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Rossville will host the game in their own gym. The winner will face no. 2 Nemaha Central (18-2) or no. 7 St. Marys (11-8) on Friday at Riley County.

On the boys side, Silver Lake enters the Class 3A Sub-state tournament with a 12-7 record. They will go on the road to no. 4 St. Marys (12-7) in the opening round at 7 p.m. on Monday. The winner will meet no. 1 Beloit (19-1) and no. 8 Minneapolis (4-16) in the next round on Thursday at Riley County High School.

Silver Lake’s girls team is the no. 1 seeded team in the Class 3A Sub-state bracket. They are 19-0 and will host no. 8 Marysville (10-10) in the first round at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The winner will face no. 4 Minneapolis (15-5) or no. 5 Beloit (15-5) at Riley County on Friday.

Cair Paravel

Cair Paravel’s boys team is the no. 5 seed in the Class 2A Sub-state bracket. The Lions (12-8) will face Jefferson County North (13-7) on the road at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The winner will meet no. 1 seed Maur Hill Mount Academy (16-4) or no. 8 seeds Pleasant Ridge (4-15) or McLouth (4-16), depending on play-in game results. The second round game will be played on Friday at Jefferson County North.

The girls team defeated McClouth (1-19) 45-26 in the play-in game on Saturday. Cair Paravel (6-15) will face no. 1 Riverside (18-2) in the first round of sub-state at 7 p.m. on Monday.
