Sticks of the Game: Turner, Bohrofen Show Off The Clutch Genes

The No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks were out for revenge following a tough loss in game one of the weekend series with Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions scored all seven of their runs in the 6th inning of Friday’s opener, and Arkansas was not able to keep up.

Saturday, the bats came to life, and the Razorbacks earned the doubleheader sweep of Southeastern Louisiana, outscoring the Lions, 16-3.

There were a handful of candidates that could have been chosen for today’s “sticks of the game,” but, when really breaking it down, Michael Turner and Jace Bohrofen had the biggest impact on the Razorback offense in Saturday’s victories.

Game One- Michael Turner

In a game that was ruled by pitching, it was graduate transfer Michael Turner that separated himself, and lifted Arkansas to the 4-2 win.

After surrendering a two-run home run that tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the 6th inning, Arkansas responded in the bottom of the 7th inning when Turner hit a two-run blast to right field that was set up thanks to an issued walk to Cayden Wallace to pull Arkansas ahead, 4-2.

The home run would be the second time in the game that Turner scored Wallace. In the 3rd inning, Turner reached base on a double that also plated Wallace.

Turner ended game one with two hits and three RBI. He also contributed to the 11-1 win in game two of the twin bill, as he recorded an RBI single in the 7th inning. He finished the day going 3-for-7 with four RBI.

Game Two- Jace Bohrofen

In a game where an offense produces 11 runs, it is hard to pick just one person that stands out.

In the game, Cayden Wallace, Robert Moore, and Jace Bohrofen each collected three hits. But, when it came down to the impact that each hit had in the game, Bohrofen won the challenge.

In the 11-1 run-rule victory, Bohrofen added five RBI to his total. Three of those came in the 8th inning on a bases-clearing triple to left field. He would score one at-bat later on a wild pitch that put the ten-run rule into effect.

Bohrofen’s bat warmed up in the 6th inning on an infield single that scored Robert Moore. He also contributed to the four-run 7th inning, scoring Cayden Wallace on a single to left field.

His great weekend could be a sign of successful times to come for Bohrofen in an Arkansas uniform. In game one’s loss to Southeastern, Bohrofen recorded two hits after beginning the season on an 0-for-16 slump.
