Stewart elevated to Green Hill boys' hoops head coach

Mar. 30—Green Hill officials didn't have to look far to find its second head boys' basketball coach — try the next seat on the bench.

Veteran assistant Nate Stewart was introduced late yesterday as the successor to Troy Allen, who retired earlier this month after coaching the Hawks for their first four seasons.

Stewart had been with Allen for 10 years going back to their days at Mt. Juliet. The duo led the Golden Bears/Hawks to a record of 225-87, four district tournament championships, six sectional appearances and two state tournaments. That includes a district title and sectional appearance with Green Hill in 2023.

"I am honored to be named the next basketball coach at Green Hill High School," Stewart said for a story posted on the school's athletic website. "As a staff, we have worked extremely hard to ensure that we are making this great school proud, and I think we are well on our way to becoming a premiere program in the state of Tennessee."

"I want to thank Principal Kevin Dawson, Assistant Principal Lee Nachand, Athletic Director EJ Wood and the rest of the administration at Green Hill High School for this opportunity to lead the boys basketball program. I want to also thank Troy and Cynthia Allen. I cannot talk enough about the impact you have had in my life. I've learned so much from you on a daily basis and will forever be in debt to you. Your legacy will live on here forever."

"To Hawk Nation: You have my word that I'm going to give everything I have to continue the tradition of excellence and winning that this program has enjoyed during its young, but impressive career. I have fallen in love with the passion that everyone has for the Hawks and what athletics means to this community."

"Coach Stewart has been an integral part of building not only Green Hill Basketball, but also the culture of the school community," Dawson said. "After working with Coach Allen for so many years, I know Coach Stewart will continue with high expectations for our student-athletes, while integrating his own personality as a coach into the program. I am pleased to see Coach Stewart continue to build our boy's basketball program for years to come."

"From the moment I met Coach Stewart and saw him interact with the players in our basketball program, I knew I wanted to keep him involved with Green Hill Basketball as long as possible," Wood said. "I could not be more excited for our student-athletes and our future under Coach Stewart's leadership. There is no doubt he will maintain the energy and excitement our program has had since starting in 2020. We know full well Nate Stewart is primed to continue to elevate boy's basketball at Green Hill and in the surrounding area."

Stewart played basketball and baseball at Cincinnati Christian University. The Ohio native graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2013.
