State swim roundup: Holland Christian's Camryn Siegers soars to state title

ROCHESTER - Freshman Camryn Siegers made an instant impact on the Holland Christian girls swimming and diving team this season.

She capped it with some history. Siegers claimed the Division 3 state swimming championship in the 100-yard backstroke.

Siegers won the race in 55.37 to lead the Maroons to a fifth-place finish at the state meet on Saturday at Oakland University.

East Grand Rapids won the meet (420), followed by Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood (219), Bloomfield Hills Marian (214), Milan (163) and Holland Christian (145). Allegan was sixth (113) and Hamilton was 21st (31).

Siegers also finished second in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 50:84.

Holland Christian's Camryn Siegers, Eden Siegers, Ruthie Ryden and Maria Heeres finished third in the 200 medley relay (1:48.43). Heeres, Ryden, Eden Siegers and Camryn Siegers took third in the 400 free relay (3:37.63).

Heeres finished seventh in the 50 freestyle (24.73) and seventh in the 100 free (54.15).

Ryden finished 12th in the 200 IM (2:17.16).

Rylie Huisenga, Payton Myrick, Ava Helms and Sara Algera took 15th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:44.53) for the Maroons.

Sadie DuBois finished eighth in diving with 324.75 points.

Hamilton's Layla Winklepleck took 10th in diving (316.45).

Hamilton's Adaline Garvelink, Lydia Lucas, Alyssa Volkers and Keira Volkers finsihed 14th in the 200 medley relay (1:56.68). Alyssa Volkers, Keira Volkers, Maya Ludema and Lucas took 13th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.87). Alyssa Volkers, Addison Grabinski, Emma Reilly and Lucas took 12th in the 400 freestyle relay (3:50.16).

Hamilton's Charlee Hoover finished second in the 50 free Paralympic event in 43.35 and in the 100 free (1:36.16).

Division 1: Zeeland's Ensing runner-up

YPSILANTI - Zeeland finished 10th at the Division 1 state finals and West Ottawa was 11th on Saturday at Eastern Michigan.

Zeeland scored 96 points and the Panthers scored 86.5. Ann Arbor Pioneer won the meet with 301, followed by Grand Haven 237.5 and Jenison (228.5).

Zeeland's Madison Ensing finished state runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle, getting to the wall in 50.94, just two hundredths of a second behind Grand Haven's Rosalee Springer.

Ensing finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.64, just four tenths off the winning time.

Ensing teamed with Miah Hutt, Paige Davis and Ariyah Gettings to finish third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:37.11). Abigail Brinks, Gettings, Ensing and Hutt took ninth in the 200 medley relay (1:48.24).

Gettings took seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.41).

Zeeland's Emmerson Meyering finsihed 16th in diving (298.55 points).

West Ottawa's Makenzie Baldwin finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (56.28) and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:54.74.

Kalyna Pyk, Baylee Davis, Samantha Bolt and Baldwin took fourth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:33.75).

West Ottawa took 10th in the 200 medley relay (1:49.02). Bolt, McKinley Levandoski, Izzy Steele and Rogen McLean took 14th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.24).

Pyk finished 11th in the 100 freestyle (53.62) and 15th in the 50 freestyle (24.65).

Jenison's Sophia Umstead (Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics) won the 100 butterfly in 53.88 and 100 breaststroke (1:01.74).

Division 2

Holland senior Natalie Legg finished 13th in the 100-backstroke at the Division 2 state finals at Holland Community Aquatic Center.

Legg, the lone scorer for the Dutch, finished the race in 1:00.16.

Farmington Hills Mercy won the meet with 326 points.
