Stars of the Day: Pacheco, Sama lead Tiverton boys basketball to dominating win

High school boys basketball teams from Tiverton and Middletown earned wins while the Portsmouth and Rogers squads tasted defeat on Tuesday night.

Visiting Tiverton won its fourth straight Division II contest as it beat winless Times 2 Academy 63-22 on Tuesday in Providence. Pacheco and Sama scored 10 points apiece as the Tigers climbed to 9-5 in the standings.

Tim Robinson and RJ Wiggins, Middletown boys basketball

Behind Robinson and Wiggins, Middletown continued its winning ways as it defeated host Coventry 69-60 on Tuesday. Robinson came through with a game-high 30 points and Wiggins had 12 as the Islanders won their 10th consecutive league game and their 13th straight overall contest to climb to 12-1 in Division II and to 16-1 overall.

Calvin Lucenti and Adam Conheeny, Portsmouth boys basketball

Classical doubled Portsmouth’s third-quarter scoring output 26-13 to gain the edge it needed in an eventual 78-67 Division I win over the host Patriots on Tuesday. Lucenti thrived offensively as he had a game-high 34 points while Conheeny contributed 14 for the Patriots (6-7).

Travis Burroughs, Rogers boys basketball

Burroughs and his teammates did their best but couldn’t take down unbeaten Johnston as they bowed to the Panthers 57-44 on Tuesday night in Newport. Burroughs tallied 13 points, 10 of them in the opening half, but the Panthers held Rogers to three points in the final quarter and pulled away for the Division II win. Rogers went to 9-5 with the setback.
