Katie Meyer, a senior goalkeeper on the Stanford women’s soccer team, was found dead in an on-campus residence on Tuesday, the school announced.

No cause of death was given and calls by USA TODAY Sports to Stanford University and the Santa Clara County (California) Sheriff's Department were not returned.

Meyer, 22 and a team captain, led the Cardinal to the 2019 championship after making two saves in a penalty shootout against North Carolina to secure the team's third national title.

Meyer, an International Relations major and History minor from Newbury Park, California, appeared in 50 games in her career, compling a 0.72 goals against average and a 34-12-4 record. She also helped the Cardinal to the 2019 Pac-12 title.

"Katie was extraordinarily committed to everything and everyone in her world. Her friends describe her as a larger-than-life team player in all her pursuits, from choosing an academic discipline she said “changed my perspective on the world and the very important challenges that we need to work together to overcome” to the passion she brought to the Cardinal women’s soccer program and to women’s sports in general," Vice Provost for Student Affairs Susie Brubaker-Cole and athletic director Bernard Muir said in a statement.
