Sports shorts: Lodi tennis scores victory over Tracy

Sep. 22—The Lodi High girls tennis team scored a home victory on Thursday, sweeping the doubles matches against Tracy and taking four of the six singles for a 7-2 victory.

Tracy took the top two singles matches, with Naomi Shih beating Sydney Friesen 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 and Melissa Paul-Vasquez beating Savannah Chinchiolo 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2, and Lodi took the rest. Emma Stilwell beat Sarah Syed 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, Hannah Larson beat Akshara Vaghela 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, Hanna Hoopmann beat Sophia Syed 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and Keara Shoup beat Alyssa Noll 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 at No. 6.

Lodi swept the doubles matches, with Nicole Ianiero and Hailey Davis beating Rumi Yee and Rachel Truong 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 1, Nyla Haynie and Taylor Hulstrom beating Emily Fox and Kassidy Brown7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 and Reese Kelley and Gracie Davenport beating Hibab Hussain and Katherine Martinez 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3.

St. Mary's 9, Tokay 0

The Tigers suffered a sweep by the Rams on Thursday, with one match going to a third set — Tokay's Inaya Khan lost 6-8, 6-0, 10-5 to St. Mary's Kara Cardona at No. 3 singles.

The rest of the singles matches were Parker Orlando over Ashley Ragon at No. 1, June Kobrin over Chloe Lowe at No. 2, Katie Rore over Alexandra Gormley at No. 4, Charlie Nelson over Myah Pimentel at No. 5, and Aubrey Jamaoas over Teresa Nieto at No. 6.

In doubles play, Fancesca Podesto and Rachelle Calimlim defeated Claudia Alvarez Juan and Marinda Htoon at No. 1, Rosan Engelman and Haylee Reed defeated Caylen Douangmalalay and Maelysee Bretin at No. 2, and Addison Roland and Rylee Bernaldez defeated Elizabeth Sanchez Alvarado and Yamilet Hernandez at No. 3.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Tokay 47, Central Catholic 6

The Tigers extended their winning streak to seven with Thursday's victory, moving into a tie with Lodi for second place in the TCAL.

Quarterback Aria Khan threw five touchdowns along with 263 passing yards, with six catches for 95 yards and a score from Jayda Perez and five catches for 65 yards from Christina Ochoa.

Kayleen Tuavao led the defense with six tackles and two interceptions, one of which she returned 36 yards for a touchdown. Serenity Hawkins added six tackles, and Joselyn Ramirez had two tackles and a pick.

Tokay will host TCAL-leading St. Mary's at home on Tuesday.

Lodi 224, Tracy 286

Giana Main led the Flames with a 42 on the par-37 Woodbridge Golf & Country Club course, helping Lodi improve to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in TCAL duals.

Allison Frank and Alison Ky each carded 44s, Viviana Rojas had a 45, Miranda Babcock had a 49 and Jayda Van Steenberge had a 51.

VOLLEYBALL

Varsity: Lodi 3, West 0

The Flames took down the Wolf Pack 25-11, 25-8, 25-13 on Thursday, with 17 assists and 3 digs from Grace Culler, 6 kills from Felicity Johnson, 6 aces, 11 assists and 2 digs from Elizabeth Kanemura, and 10 digs from Mariah Azua.

Varsity: Lincoln 3, Tokay 1

The Tigers dropped Thursday's match 25-17, 25-21, 25-18 to fall to 6-11 overall and 1-2 in league play, with 8 kills, 11 digs and 3 aces from Mya Okoreeh, 9 digs from Michelle Mercado, 12 digs from Bella Breech and 5 kills from Jasmine Megwa.

JV: Lodi 2, West 0

Hope Carson led the Flames with 6 assists in Thursday's 25-4, 25-12 victory, along with 2 digs from Sienna Lee and 3 aces from Holly Reich.

JV: Lincoln 2, Tokay 0

Kaci Whatley had 2 kills and 5 digs as the Tigers lost 25-8, 25-10 on Thursday.

Freshmen: Tokay 2, Lincoln 1

The Tigers notched their first TCAL victory on Thursday with an 18-25, 25-15, 25-6 win. Payten Smith led Tokay with 4 aces, and Sophia Gelletti had 3 kills.

The Lodi freshman team ran away with a 50-6 victory over Manteca's freshman team on Thursday.
