Sports scores, highlights: Durfee, Atlantis Charter capture baseball victories

The spring high school season is underway for Fall River area teams.

Here's a look at high school highlights from Monday's action:

Baseball: Durfee 3, New Bedford 2

LOCATION: New Bedford

DATE: May. 1

RECORD: Durfee, 4-5 (1-2 in Southeast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers won a close game on the road against league opponent New Bedford. Sebastian Reis led the offense for Durfee, going 2-for-4 with a big two-run triple in the fifth inning. Josh Boria and Owen Moniz also chipped in with two hits. Josh Boria got the win on the mound, pitching five innings. He gave up three hits, two earned run, five walks while striking out five. Ethan Cambra got the save, pitching the final two innings. He fanned three and gave up one hit. He also had a RBI single at the plate.

NEXT UP: The HIlltoppers travel to Dartmouth on Wednesday.

Baseball: Atlantis Charter 11, Norfolk Aggie 2

LOCATION: Norfolk Aggie

DATE: May 1

RECORD: Atlantis Charter, 4-3

HIGHLIGHTS: The Tritons had their way with Norfolk Aggie on the road. Davion Adediran pitched six strong innings for Atlantis, striking out 12 while scattering two hits and two runs. Owen Dorego closed the game out in relief, striking out two in the last inning. Ethan Frias led the charge offensively with three hits, including a triple. Devon Paradise collected a pair of doubles while Jared Brown and Kater Perreira each finished with two hits. Dorego, Thomas Berek, Adediran and Brady Mak all chipped in in with a hit.

Softball: New Bedford 20, Durfee 4

LOCATION: Fall River

DATE: May 1

RECORD: Durfee, 3-5

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers lost to league opponent New Bedford at home. Mia Jacobs led Durfee with three hits and scored a run. Emily Curran had a hit and two RBI. Rachael Silva had a hit, scored a run, and an RBI. Katrina Rumsey had a hit an RBI.

NEXT UP: The Hilltoppers host Dartmouth on Wednesday.

Boys Tennis: Durfee 5, Middleboro 0

LOCATION: Middleboro

DATE: May 1

RECORD: N/A

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers swept their match against non-league opponent Middleboro on the road. Will Rumsey (6-2, 6-2), Jack Fitzgerald (6-1, 6-2) and Colin Fleet (7-6, 3-6, 10-8 tiebreaker) each won their singles matches for Durfee. Chrispin Sokol and Xavier Inacio won their first doubles match, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0. Tom Archambault and Erza Moniz won at second doubles, 6-2, 6-3.

Boys Tennis: Diman 3, Case 2

LOCATION: Swansea

DATE: May 1

RECORD: Diman, 1-5 (1-5)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals won their first match of the season at home against non-league opponent Case. yesterday defeating Case. Captain Connor Kennedy won his third straight singles match for Diman, winning 6-1, 6-1. Michael Larivee won his singles match, 6-3, 6-1. The doubles team of Jakob Dacosta and Juelz Soria won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.

NEXT UP: The Bengals host West Bridgewater on Wednesday.

Boys Tennis: Fairhaven 5, Westport 0

LOCATION: Fairhaven

DATE: May 1

RECORD: Case, 4-3 (2-1 in Mayflower Comprehensive)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Wildcats were swept by Fairhaven on the road. Westport senior Nick DosVais saw his 6-0 winning streak at 1st doubles snapped.

NEXT UP: The Wildcats travel to Bishop Connolly on Wednesday.

Girls Tennis: Diman 4, Case 1

LOCATION: Fall River

DATE: May 1

RECORD: Diman, 5-1 (3-0 in Mayflower Large); Case 1-7 (0-5 in South Coast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals swept four of five matches against non-league opponent Case. Lindsey Moniz won in straight sets at first singles, 6-0, 6-4. Gloria Moniz won her match easily at second singles, 6-0, 6-0. Sarah Moniz won a tiebreaker set, 6-1, 7-5, 7-0. At first doubles, Lizzie Kinnane and Sadie Krauzyk their match, 6-1, 6-3. "Great all- around performances from everyone who played," Cardinals head coach Mackenzie Deschenes said.

NEXT UP: The Bengals travel to West Bridgewater on Wednesday.

Girls Tennis: Middleboro 3, Durfee 2

LOCATION: MIddleboro

DATE: May 1

RECORD: Durfee, 5-4

HIGHLIGHTS: The HIlltoppers lost a close match on the road to non-league opponent Middleboro. Luv Rumsey won her match at second singles for Durfee. Gabby Farias and Maggie O’Connell was victorious at first doubles.

NEXT UP: The HIlltoppers travel to Dartmouth on Tuesday.

Boys Lacrosse: South Shore 16, Westport 3

LOCATION: Westport

DATE: May 2

RECORD: Westport, 3-7

HIGHLIGHTS: The Wildcats lost a home game against South Shore Tech. Owen Boudria led Westport with a pair of goals. Will Quinlan also finished with a goal. Coltrane McGonigle and Tyler Arrial each had an assist.

NEXT UP: Westport travels to Bristol-Plymouth on Wednesday.

Boys Volleyball: Durfee 3, Bellingham 1

LOCATION: Fall River

DATE: May 1

RECORD: Durfee, 4-6

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers took three of four — 22-25, 25-12, 25-21, 26-24 — at home in a win against non-league opponent Bellingham. Jack Gauvin had 26 assists and five kill shots for Durfee. Chris Milfort finished with 14 kill shots and 11 digs. Daniel Matuszek had another strong all-around game while Jesutomisin Olubanwo had seven kill shots and 17 service points in a row in set 2.
