Sep. 12—CAYUGA — The North Daviess varsity and JV volleyball teams took the Falcon Invite this weekend at North Vermillion.

The varsity defeated Hebron, 17-25, 25-19, 15-7 and then beat Dugger, 25-11, 25-14. The JV beat Hebron, 25-16, 25-19 and then beat Dugger, 25-12, 22-25, 15-3.

On Tuesday, ND (10-8) beat Shakamak, in four, 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, and 25-20.

Lanie Cornelius led with 14 kills. Brynlee Perkins and Erica Kemp each had 10 kills. Amaya McBride led with 44 assists. The Cougs are at WRV on Thursday.

Hatchet get PAC soccer win

It was a big night for Dominic Mattingly who scored all four goals including two penalty kicks. Jose Mejia was fantastic in goal, allowing only a single tally.

Thursday is senior night when the Hatchets host Boonville, with the festivities beginning at 6 p.m.

Lady Vikes beat Jasper in 4

LASPER — Barr-Reeve Volleyball traveled to Jasper on Tuesday and got a 3-1 victory (25-22, 26-24, 19-25, 25-14). The Vikings were led on the night by Hallie Knepp with 21 assists, Addison Jones with 19 digs, Lanie Graber added 14 kills, and Kennedy Huff with two aces. The Vikings are now 12-6. The J.V. Vikings also picked up a win over Jasper 2-0 (25-15, 25-20), both teams are home Thursday night in a Blue Chip Conference game with South Knox.

Emmons leads B-R to BCC crown

BICKNELL — In the first ever Blue Chip Conference girls' golf meet in Bicknell it was the Barr Reeve Vikings taking home the top prizes. The Vikings won the team event with a 177 followed by North Knox 28 strokes back and a 205 and South Knox placed third with a 213. The first ever individual champion was Barr Reeve's Olivia Emmons who carded a +2 (37). It was a sweep on the 12-player all conference team with the Vikings placing all five members on the squad. Following Emmons was Brynna Knepp 44, Brylee Fuhrman 47 and Brynnlee Rollins and Caitlyn Kribs with 49's. Girls sectional is Monday, also at Highpoint.

Viking soccer loses to SK

MONTGOMERY — The Barr-Reeve High School varsity soccer team played the South Knox varsity team on their home turf and were defeated 5-1. The lone Viking goal was finished by Landon Gallagher off an assist from Dominic Wilson. This is the second Viking loss, leaving them with a record of 6-2 on the season. They are back in action at home against North Knox on Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. kick off.

BRHS JV soccer team had their first match against South Knox and played incredibly well together on the field. Although the Vikings were defeated 2-0, their heart and hustle, as well as their footwork and knowledge of play were much-improved from the beginning of training. They will play one JV half against Wood Memorial for the final game of the season.

ND beats Sullivan

Cougars took down the a solid Sullivan tennis squad Tuesday evening to improve their record to 11-3.

At No. 1 Max Toy fell 1 and 2, Cam Sassano was a 1-2 winner, and Blake Huff was a 7-5 and 6-2. In doubles, Aiden Pridemore and Carter Jessie lost 6-7(6) and 3-6, but Aden Graber and Coby Loheider won 4 and 4.

"This Sullivan squad was a group that easily took down Lincoln earlier this year who gave the Cougars one of their three losses. Sassano cruised at No. 2 singles with a 6-1 and 6-2 victory. Huff jumped out early at No.3, but with a momentum shift in the middle of the first set it looked in doubt. Huff pulled it together to close out the first set and easily won the second for a win. The final win came down to two doubles where the consistent play and quick feet of Loheider and net play of Graber was enough to get the close win," said coach Adam Schulte.

The JV lost 4-2.

The Cougars head to Edgewood on Wednesday to try their luck with the Mustangs.

Viking tennis wins

The Barr-Reeve Tennis team won its match against Heritage Hills, 3-2 on Tuesday night to go 11-1 on the season.

At No. Donnie Miller lost to Mason Ficker 2-6, 3-6, and Xavier Meiring lost to Matthew Kress, 3-6, 2-6. However, B-R's Kierson Lengacher beat Brock Riehle, 7-5, 6-0, while Ethan Stoll and Isaac Madison beat Braden Pruitt, 6-0, 6-2 and Vikings Kyle Graber and Levi Lester beat Brayton Caswell and Marshall Snyder, 6-3, 6-3

"I am really pleased with the way we competed tonight against a very good Heritage Hills team. Their top 2 players are one of the better 1-2 combinations we have faced all year. Donnie and Xavier played really well against them in their losses. Kierson at number 3 for us played as good as he has played all year in his victory. Both of our doubles are playing well going into a tough stretch coming up," said B-R coach Brock Higgins.

The Vikings play in the Vincennes Lincoln tournament this Saturday.

Lions fall to Rivet

Loogootee Varsity volleyball was defeated by Rivet, 21-25, 19-25, 22-25 to move to 11-4 (BCC 1-1).

Addy Lengacher led with 10 points, Sydnee Wittmer had three aces, Madison Ramsey posted seven kills. Lengacher led with 13 assists, Breanna Courter had 11 digs, while Ashlynn Gilbert and Madison Ramsey both had two blocks.

The JV won against Rivet in three sets (25-12, 17-25, 15-7), to move to 5-4.

Vikes beat Wood Memorial, 5-0The Barr-Reeve tennis team continued its successful season, losing just one game against Wood Memorial on Monday.

The Barr-Reeve Tennis team won their match against Wood Memorial 5-0 on Monday night to go 10-1 on the season.

At No. 1, Donnie Miller beat Gaum Bigham, 6-1 6-0, No. 2 Xavier Meiring beat Parker Lee 6-0, 6-0 and Kierson Lengacher won by default.

In doubles, Ethan Stoll and Isaac Madison beat Anthony Gress/Jacob Henry, 6-0, 6-0 and at No. 2 Kyle Graber and Levi Lester beat Evan Bartley/Carter Livermore, 6-0, 6-0. The Vikings play Heritage Hills Tuesday at home.

Cougars beat WHS, 5-0

ELNORA — The Cougars took down the Washington tennis team 5-0 Monday evening at Tony Steele Courts.

"It was a complete effort with Cougars in control from start to finish. After a strong showing both doubles teams will be required to step up as the Cougars are looking to gain some momentum moving forward this week with tough road challenges at Sullivan and at Edgewood," said ND coach Adam Schulte.

At No. 1, Max Toy was a 6-2 and 6-3 winner over Elijah Parsons, while Cam Sassano beat Austin Clark, 0 and 0, while ND's Blake Huff beat Layton Welsh, 0 and 4. In doubles, Aiden Pridemore and Carter Jessie beat Hatchets Brody Armes and Hayden Tomey, 1 and 1, while Coby Loheider and Aden Graber beat Caleb Bouchie and Tristan Zollars, 0 and 0.

In the lone JV match, ND's Rex Freed downed Owen Barber, 8-0.
