Sports: Athens, Mabank and Brownsboro athletes advance in track

Apr. 6—Athens, Mabank and Brownsboro track and field teams competed at the 16-4A track meet in Canton on Wednesday and Thursday, with several from each school moving on to the area round.

Athens

Athens freshman Donna Carpenter was among the first place finishers as she sped away form the field in the girls 3200 meters. Carpenter was timed at 12:21.86, almost four seconds better than Elizabeth Wilson of Canton.

Athens freshman McCrager Smith out-tossed the competition in the discus with a heave of 157-3. His toss was 17 feet further than the second place finisher, Christian Pettaway of Lindale.

Hornet Alizjah Davis qualified for area with a fourth place finish in the women's long jump.

Jose Vasquez was fourth in the 800 meter run and Jaxon Dugan in 300 meter hurdles.

Also qualifying for Athens were two boys relay teams. The 4x200 team of LaZavion Lee, Jamauri Manning A.J. White and David Richardson was fourth and the 4x400 of Brett Horn, Lazavian Lee, Gage Friedrich and A.J. White was third.

Brownsboro

Brownsboro's Khayla Garrett in her final year of high school, added to her list of titles by taking first in the women's long jump, with a hop of 17-4.50.

Kryra Garrett was best in triple jump with a total of 34-8.

Khyra Garrett of Brownsboro placed second in the women's high jump.

GeKyle Baker placed second in men's high jump, behind Marcus Field of Lindale.

The Bears' Michah Strickland earned second in men's triple jump.

Brownsboro's Tiykeah McKenzie ran second in the girls 400 meter dash.

Michelle Lewis was second in the 100 meter hurdles.

The Bears were second in the boys 4x200 relay.

Mabank

The women's shot put saw Mabank sophomore Taylor Harris turn in a second place toss of 31-6.25.

Harris also placed third in the discus finals.

Kendal Woods won the girls high jump.

Korban Murphy of Mabank was second in the 400 meter dash. Murphy won the 800 meter hurdles.

Junior Trista Etheridge finished first in the girls 1600 meter run.

Cian Wick-Ashley outran the field in the 100 meter dash.

Kendall Woods was third in the girls 300 meter hurdles.
