Smithfield and Hendricken both needed OT but won their Division I boys basketball games

BOYS BASKETBALL

Division I

Smithfield 67, Mount Pleasant 61 (OT)

CJ Blakely and Shawn Dwyer each hit a 3-pointer in overtime as Smithfield took control in the extra period for a hard-fought victory. Blakely finished with a game-high 23 points, Dwyer chipped in with 16 and Devin Smith had 10 for the Sentinels, now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the division. The Kilties' Carlos Cabrera had forced the extra session by hitting a 3-pointer with two seconds to go in regulation. Joe Batista led the Mount Pleasant (4-4 and 3-3) attack with 15 points, all coming from outside the arc, while Jaylin Robertson and Domingo Qualls had 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Hendricken 62, Cumberland 60 (OT)

The play of James Caldarella (22 points) and Dylan Lynch (15 points) helped Hendricken escape with a victory over Cumberland in overtime. The two Hawks combined for 7 treys in the win. The Oakers had 5 players reach double figures in scoring: Ben Jahnz (13), Hunter Zancan (12), Connor Allard (11), Joe Parenteau (11) and Luke Plummer (10).

Division II

St. Raphael 77, Mt. Hope 59

The Saints got a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) from Addison Hazziez, and Zerek Johnson had a game-high 19 points to go along with 5 assists, as they rolled past the Huskies. Lucas Rosa contributed 13 points and Rafael Rios added 12 for St. Raphael, now 8-0 in the division and 11-1 overall. Lucas Andreozzi spearheaded the Mt. Hope attack with 22 points and Matt MacDougal and Jack Thompson each had 11. The Huskies fall to 1-8 and 1-9.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Division I

Barrington 54, South Kingstown 35

The balanced attack of Jaynaya Prince Baquero (15 points), Isys Dunphy (12), Riley Graveline (11) and Maddie Gill (10) propelled the Eagles to the Division I crossover victory. Finley Carr and Victoria Hancock each had 9 points for the Rebels.

Bay View 50, Portsmouth 43

Ava Wasylow scored 22 points and Amelia Polichetti had 15 as the Bengals held off the Patriots and improved to 6-3 atop Division I-C. Ava Moore's 12 points led Portsmouth, now 6-2 in I-A.

Classical 46, Scituate 37

Shanell Smith Akpan poured in 32 points and Giada Achille registered 14 as the Purple, now 2-5, upended the Spartans, also now 2-5.

North Kingstown 78, Cranston West 56

A trio of double-digit scorers — Jaelyn Holmes (23 points), Shea Kalin (22) and Brooke Faunce (19) — helped the Skippers upend the Falcons and slip ahead of them into first place in Division I-B.

Division II

Mount St. Charles 65, Coventry 42

Addie Stojanowski pumped in 18 points and teammate Emma Robert knocked down 17 points in the Mounties win over the Oakers. Addie Johnson added 10 points in the win. Alana Dufour and Leah Lapham each scored 10 for the Oakers and Tori Healey chipped in with 9 in the loss.

Chariho 46, Prout 28

Emily Ballard and Jules White scored a dozen points apiece, paving the way for the Chargers' victory over Prout. Erin Hanrahan topped the Crusaders with 9 points.

Division III

Exeter/West Greenwich 43, Narragansett 38

Ella Johnson finished with 21 points, one assist and one steal, and Kate Hebert chipped in with 7 points, 3 rebounds,  a steal and a block in the victory for the Scarlet Knights. Grace Blessing had 14 points and Delaney Bonneau added 12 for the Mariners.

GIRLS INDOOR TRACK

Southern Division

Rogers 68, South Kingstown 42; Rogers 67, Westerly 43

Rogers defeated both Westerly (67-43) and South Kingstown, 68-42. The Vikings' Kaden Thomas won the shot put (52-11) and Akeem Hazell won the 55 dash (6.86). Other Vikings with first-place finishes were Jakari Medina, who took the hurdles (9.51, and Braden LaChappelle (5-2), who won the high jump.
