SMALL SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Quinton, Hartshorne roll to major wins

Sep. 29—Quinton blasted out of the gate and never looked back.

Quinton faced off against Arkoma Friday in the final game before district play, with the green machine taking the 58-6 win.

Coach Brian Haynie said he was proud of his team's effort in sealing away the victory early.

"I thought our kids — other than a few mistakes and execution — played really well," he said.

Quinton (3-2) wasted no time getting the early score courtesy of Eli Blankenship. That set off a wave of offensive scoring — including scores from Brett Barnes — paired with steely defense as the green machine powered their way forward.

The Mustangs (1-4) got a score late, but not before the green machine sealed away the win.

Next up for Quinton, the green and black will open district play Oct. 6 on the road against Midway.

The Buffaloes (1-4) struck first with a pair of scores, taking a 12-0 lead. But the Diggers (0-5) answered as they drove down the field and Troy Clark burst into the endzone.

In the second half, the Diggers took the opening kickoff deep into Buffalo territory. They'd cap off that short drive with another Clark score to take the 14-12 lead.

Hugo managed a score late in the third quarter, retaking the slim lead. It was a fight to the finish, but it'd be the Buffaloes holding on for the win.
