SIZZLING COMPETITION: Local city links championship features 4-way tie for 1st Saturday

On what arguably was the hottest day of the year temperature-wise, the action on the Adams Municipal Golf Course also sizzled Saturday.

Following the end of the first round of the 2022 Jim Curd St. Dink’s Men’s Golf City Championship tournament, four players in the Championship Flight (gross) stood knotted in first place with 76 — Russell Huff, Lynn Rowland, Brandon Lewis and Landon Curd.

Play wraps up Sunday with Hillcrest Country Club hosting the second round.

Just one stroke back after Saturday’s first round were Jeff Rude and Tanner John — the Bartlesville High head boys golf coach and his current top protege — at 75.

Rounding out the Top 10, at 78, were Preston Bartley, Joel Smith, Chris Shaw and Ross Novak.

Defending champion Jordan Boerio came in tied for 11th (79) with Mike Brownell and Shawn Barker.

Huff’s score for holes one through 10 stood at five-over par (45), but he shot one-under par the final eight holes.

Lewis record a birdie on No. 18 to be part of the four-way tie for first.

Bartley shot the lowest round (33) on the back nine, to mitigate a swollen total of 45 on the front side.

Other golfers that shot even par or better on either front or back nines included Austin Curd (44-36—80) and Rowland (40-36–76).

In the A Flight (net), Terry Trammell and Dustin Smith are tied for at 76, followed by Trey Osborne at 78.

Mike Tyndall leads the Senior Flight (net) at 67 (36-31), followed by three players tied at 74 — Jim Jenkins, Bob Reilly and Peter Emmott.

The first Championship Flight pairing is set to step off at 10:50 a.m.

The A Flight group sends out its first combo at 9:40 a.m. and the final threesome (Terry Trammel, 76; Dustin Smith, 76; and Trey Osborne, 78) at 10:30 a.m.

The Senior Flight sends off it first trio at 8:30 a.m.; the final foursome (Mike Tyndall, 67; Jim Jenkins, 74; Bob Reilly, 74; and Petter Emmott, 74) is set to tee off at 9:20 a.m.
