Sixers’ Joel Embiid misses practice again, status uncertain vs. Hawks

CAMDEN, N.J. — The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to get back on track when they take on the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday on the road. They have taken two tough losses in a row and they have been undermanned in both games.

Joel Embiid, who was dealing with an ankle injury, is now dealing with a knee issue that kept him out of Saturday’s loss to the Utah Jazz. Embiid missed practice on Monday and coach Nick Nurse revealed that it was the same for Tuesday’s practice.

Essentially, everything that happened Monday was the same on Tuesday.

“Same as yesterday,” said Nurse after practice. “Guys that were back yesterday were back again today and guys that were out yesterday were out again today.”

Nurse stated Monday that Embiid and Robert Covington were out while De’Anthony Melton, Tobias Harris, and Furkan Korkmaz returned. That was the same for Tuesday.

As far as Embiid is concerned, his status is uncertain for the matchup with the Hawks on Wednesday.

“So let’s see that means Melt looks pretty probable for tomorrow,” Nurse continued. “He’s made it through two practices in a row. Tobias two practices in a row. Cov and Joel out. We’ll see where we’re at yet on that. I’m gonna get with Simon (Rice) here in a minute and see what it looks like for the trip and for the game tomorrow.”

The Sixers are currently 2-6 without Embiid and they had a tough time protecting the paint against the Jazz. It will be interesting to see how they handle the Hawks if the big fella can’t go.
