Sixers among teams Kyrie Irving interested in joining if he leaves Nets

While the Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of trying to be sure they are prepared for the draft and free agency, an interesting name may have popped up on their radar as they look to build around Joel Embiid and James Harden.

Kyrie Irving has a player option with the Brooklyn Nets for the 2022-23 season and he and the Nets are having trouble coming to an agreement on an extension that would keep him in Brooklyn with Kevin Durant as they move forward with their title quest.

The Nets are, understandably, concerned about Irving’s availability after he sat out a lot in the 2021-22 season due to his refusal to cooperate with New York City’s vaccine mandate. Eventually, that went away, but in three seasons in Brooklyn, Irving has played a grand total of 103 games. That is a big concern despite his immense talent.

If Irving and the Nets can’t come to an agreement and he leaves Brooklyn, there are several teams Irving is interested in joining. The Sixers, who have his former teammate in Harden, are one of those teams.

On the flip side, Irving isn’t necessarily a priority for Philadelphia.

This would be something interesting to keep an eye on. Irving is one of the elite talents in the league despite his obvious penchant for missing a lot of games. The Sixers have been known to want to look for a third star to join Embiid and Harden so maybe Irving could be that guy.
