910Preps Athlete of the Week winner for Jan. 1-5

Northwood Temple's junior guard Elijah Kindle is December 11-16 Athlete of the Week

It was an exciting first week of basketball for the 2024 portion of the season. With a number of stellar double-double, and two 30-point performances.

After a total of 26,773 votes, Northwood Temple Academy's junior guard Elijah Kindle walks away with the 910Preps Athlete of the Week honor for Jan. 1-5 with 17,127 votes (64%), marking his second nod of the season after being the winner for Dec. 11-16.

The emerging junior guard continues to make his presence known this season for the Eagles posting 34 points in a tough win versus New Life Christian on Friday, notching his second 30-point game in a month's span. Because of his stellar play this season, Kindle has earned interest from a couple of colleges, like North Carolina Wesleyan College, and Pointe University.

"He's (Elijah) emerging right before our eyes, and he's putting Fayetteville and college coaches on notice. We're really blessed to have this kid," Eagles head coach Jason Moore said.

South View's Jordynn Parnell came in second in voting with 6,932 (25.9%) votes, while her teammate Nahmiah Aekins came out with 2,285 (8.5%) votes to come in third place.

Jayda Angel, Cape Fear - The senior Elon commit put together an exciting performance in the team's sole game on Friday at Purnell Swett. Angel put up 38 points, notching her seventh consecutive 30-plus point performance, along with nine rebounds, five assists, and 11 steals on the night.

Nahmiah Aekins, South View - Aekins, the senior point forward continues to be a double-double machine for South View this season. In last week's two contests, Aekins averaged 12.5 points, and 20 rebounds and led the Tigers to a 2-0 week.

Ari Fulton, Westover - Fulton, the NJIT commit, put on a phenomenal show Friday in a conference matchup versus Triton. The senior posted 21 points and make memorable plays down the stretch to help Westover claim the top spot in the conference.

Derek Green, E.E. Smith - Green continues to impress with his consistent numbers this season. In a contest versus Harnett Central, the junior posted 22 points and 15 rebounds in a Golden Bulls win.

Jordynn Parnell, South View - The sophomore guard was exceptional for the Tigers last week in two contests, averaging a double-double for the week. Parnell recorded 10 points and 13 rebounds versus St. Pauls, and 15 points along with 11 rebounds Friday against Douglas Byrd.

Coaches and athletic directors can nominate a player for athlete of the week by sending nominations to jfmoore@gannett.com by noon Sunday. Include the player's name, year in school, accomplishments for the week and a headshot.
