Six Huskers named to the Senior Bowl watchlist

The Senior Bowl has released its preseason watchlist of players who may be featured in their postseason game next offseason. Nebraska has six players on their preseason watchlist to consider for selection when the offseason comes around.

The Senior Bowl is an annual postseason game played in Mobile, Alabama. The game is one of the largest showcases for NFL draft prospects.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has even previously coached in the game. It was in January of 2021 when he coached as a member of the Carolina Panthers.

Listed below are all six players from the early watchlist for the Huskers.

Despite being listed as a junior, the 2020 COVID year allows for Benhart’s fifth-season (2023) to become his Senior Bowl-eligible season. Benhart’s 60.6 grade in 2022 was good enough to be ranked 334th of 610 tackles in the country.

Ben Scott

Ben Scott was one of the many incoming transfers this offseason to join Matt Rhule and his first season at Lincoln. Scott’s 61.4 PFF grade in 2022 was enough to rank him 157th of 289 total centers. While that may seem low, Scott did see a grade of 73.9 in 2021.

After taking a noticeable gap between the 2018 and 2022 seasons, Anthony Grant posted a 74.0 grade for the Huskers last year. While his ranking of 225 of 459 may seem low, there are a lot more ball carriers who saw a high grade but only saw limited comparable stats.

Quinton Newsome

Quinton Newsome posted a career-best grade of 69.8 last year where he ended up ranking 317 of all 917 graded cornerbacks. Newsome was targeted 72 times last season but only allowed 38 receptions for 469 yards.

Luke Reimer

As a coverage linebacker, Luke Reimer was among the best. His 77.8 grade in coverage had him ranked 80th best among all 746 graded linebackers. However, what really brought down his overall grade of 52.5 was his run defense where he posted a 35.8 grade – sixth worst in the entire country.

The Nebraska defensive lineman is on the lower end of the grading scale. His grade of 59.5 in 2022 was the best in his career, but when you grade in the 40’s two of the previous three seasons, it’s not a hard peak to cross.
