After signing with Jets, RB Dalvin Cook will face Broncos in Week 5

Dalvin Cook has found a new home.

The 28-year-old running back has signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets worth up to $8.6 million. The Denver Broncos were linked to Cook this offseason, but his price tag was likely too costly.

After landing in New York, Cook will travel to Denver when the Jets go on the road to face the Broncos in Week 5 this season.

Coming off the first full season of his career, Cook rushed 264 times for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games last fall. Before that, he missed four games in 2021, two games in 2020 and 2019, five games in 2018 and 12 games in 2017.

Cook (5-10, 210 pounds) entered the league as a second-round pick out of Florida State with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017. George Paton, the Broncos’ current general manager, was serving as Minnesota’s director of player personnel when Cook was drafted.

Cook’s 5,993 career rushing yards rank third among active players, only trailing Nick Chubb (6,341 yards) and Derrick Henry (8,335 yards). Cook’s 47 rushing touchdowns rank fourth among active players behind Chubb (48), Alvin Kamara (49) and Henry (78).

Cook also has 221 receptions for 1,794 yards and five scores on his resume. Entering his seventh season in the NFL, the veteran running back is on pace to top 8,000 career yards from scrimmage this fall.
