SHS girls win pair of track duals

The Sturgis track and field teams had opposite results on Wednesday.

The Lady Trojans brought home a pair of wins, beating Three Rivers 89-48 and Vicksburg 75.33 - 61.67, the boys dropped both meets. Three Rivers beat the Trojans 90-47 and Vicksburg did as well, 114-22.

“I am very proud of how our team competed tonight. We knew that Vicksburg was going to provide us with great competition, which they did, but our kids stepped up in all of their events,” Sturgis girls’ coach Lesley Starkey said.

The SHS girls have not lost a conference dual race in the 400, 800 or mile relays yet this season. On Wednesday, the 400 relay team of Tenley Banaszak, Yuri Villafuerte, Rea’Shavon Moore and Hannah Garbine won with a time of 51.83 seconds. The 800 relay team of Jacqueline Flores, Riley Eicher, Kinder Smith and Keyanna O’Tey won with a time of 1:52.88. The mile relay team’s time of 4:19.85 was posted by Smith, Sydney Bir, Riley Eicher and Kylie Brooks.

Keyanna O’Tey ran to first place in both sprints. She won the 100 dash at 12.07 seconds and the 200 at 24.93 seconds.

Tessa Hatt brought home first place in the distance races. She won the mile run at 5:47.65 and claimed the win in the two-mile race at 13:07.75.

Banaszak jumped to first place in the high jump, clearing 4-6 feet. Eleena Kelley won the discus event, she posted a distance of 86-2 feet.

Bir ran to third place in the 400 run at 1:04.57, she was also third in the 800 meters at 2:44.63. Hatt finished second in the 800 at 2:35.31.

Brooks was second overall in the 300 hurdles with a time of 50.74 seconds. She finished third in the 100 hurdles at 18.07 seconds.

Sturgis’ two-mile relay team of Hatt, Bir, Emma Garbine and Berkley Holtz ran a time of 11:18.38, good for second place.

Megan Hecht finished third in the discus at 77-8 feet. Kenzie Eicher placed second in the high jump at 4-3 feet. Emma Garbine finished second in the pole vault at 7-6 feet, Kaylee Draper also cleared 7-6 feet to finish third overall.

Ruben Medina ran to the only first-place finish for the SHS boys. It came in the 800 run at 2:10.55.

Brandin Kelley finished third in the 100 dash at 11.56 seconds.

Nolan Park finished third in both distance races. His time was 5:04.99 in the mile and 11:09.23 in the two-mile run.

Nathan Kinder placed second overall in the 300 hurdles, his time was 43.98 seconds.

Sturgis finished second in the 400 relay. The team of Todd Guijosa, Kelley, Kaicee Kyle and Brenden Myers came in with a time of 45.57 seconds.

In the two-mile relay, Sturgis finished third. The team of Gabe Powell, Zachary Green, Medina and Alan Montoya ran a time of 3:55.30 in that one.

For Three Rivers, Kylin Griffin ran to first place overall in the 400 meters at 58.29 seconds. She finished second to O’Tey in both the 100 (12.45 seconds) and 200 (25.99 seconds).

Annabelle Gill posted a time of 16.07 seconds for second place in the 100 hurdles, she posted a time of 52.39 seconds to finish third in the 300 hurdles.

In the 800 relay, Three Rivers’ team of Griffin, Rylea Summey, Calista Lockwood and Savannah Headley finished second at 1:53.65.

Lydia Hilton finished second in the shot put at 27-11, Megan Hamon finished second in the discus at 78-0 feet.

For the boys, Kyler Copenhaver came in second for the 400 run at 56.21 seconds. Andrew Brown finished third in the 200 meters at 24.03 seconds.

Sulley Zietlow ran a time of 10:51.97 to bring home first place in the two-mile run. He also posted a time of 4:54.31 to finish second in the mile run.

Jordan Pisco won the 110 hurdles, his time was 16.61 seconds. He also won the high jump, clearing 5-9 feet.

TR’s team of Brown, Jeremiah Marzett, Copenhaver and Drew Korbyn finished second in the 800 relay at 1:36.27. The team of Copenhaver, Blake Stewart, Tre Rohrer and Kobryn was second in the mile relay with a time of 3:52.47.

Three Rivers won the two-mile relay as Marc Castlunger, Zietlow, Troyer Serna and Johnathan Pant scored a time of 9:04.44.

Brown won the long jump for Three Rivers, soaring 19-0 feet. Kobryn was second at 17-11 feet.
