Short: Freeman locked in, playing like an MVP

D.J. Short applauds fantasy managers who traded for Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman while he was struggling earlier in the year and notes how well he has played since early June.

DJ SHORT: It sounds hard to believe, but Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman was batting .224 as recently as June 9. If you managed to pry him away from a frustrated fantasy manager, chances are you are very happy right now.

Through July 28, Freeman was hitting .379 with 10 home runs and 26 RBIs over 43 games since that nadir in early June. The defending National League MVP is doing MVP things again. Freeman has been completely locked in at the plate of late, recently going 35 consecutive plate appearances without a single swing and miss. Freeman is a .295 career hitter with an [? approach ?] that has only gotten better with age. And suddenly, he has a real shot at equaling his career-best 38 homers from 2019.

Yes, the Braves lineup was dealt a terrible blow with Ronald Acuna Jr. going down with a torn ACL. But there's every reason to think that Freeman can continue to produce at an elite pace.
