Shore Conference Field Hockey 2023 Coaches All-Shore teams

It was an exciting season of field hockey in the Shore Conference.

Both Point Pleasant Borough and Shore Regional advanced to NJSIAA group championship matches for the second straight season and Point Borough won the Shore Conference Tournament for the first time since 1989.

Also, Point Borough forward Caroline DeKenipp concluded one of the great careers in that program's history.

It is now time to meet those players who the Shore Conference Field Hockey Coaches Association felt were the best of the best in the Shore this season with their All-Shore first and second team selections plus the Coaches All Division teams. The Asbury Park Press thanks the coaches for providing us with their All-Shore team and Coaches All Division teams.

We also have the Player and Coach of the Year and the final Top 20 for the season. The player and coach of the years and final top 20 was compiled by the Asbury Park Press.

FIRST TEAM CAPSULES

Attackers/Forwards

Caroline DeKenipp

School: Point Pleasant Boro

Year: Senior.

Highlights:

DeKenipp led Point Pleasant Borough to its first Shore Conference Tournament championship since 1989 and to the NJSIAA Group 2 championship match for the second consecutive season.

She had 34 goals and five assists for 73 points and concluded her career with 113 goals and 32 assists for 258 points.

DeKenipp had four games with four goals or more, including a five goal performance in a 7-0 win over Allentown.

She has signed with Rutgers University.

Briella Elias

School: Shore

Year: Sophomore

Highlights:

Elias led Shore to the SCT championship match and to the NJSIAA Group 1 final.

She had 28 goals and 11 assists on the season. She had five goals and an assist in the Blue Devils' 10-0 win over Butler in a NJSIAA North Group 1 first round match.

Codi Damerau

School: Point Pleasant Borough

Year: Sophomore

Highlights:

Damerau has been a key player on Point Pleasant Borough's team the last two seasons.

This season, she had 16 goals and 14 assists for 46 points. She had three games with two goals and 13 games where she scored. Damerau has 36 goals 22 assists for 94 points in her career.

Izzy Kaczor

School: Rumson-Fair Haven

Year: Junior

Highlights:

Kaczor had a sensational season for a Rumson-Fair Haven team that advanced to the Shore Conference Tournament semifinal and the North Group 2 championship match.

She had 78 points on 28 goals and 22 assists. She had four goals and an assist in the Bulldogs' 8-3 win over West Milford in a North 2 quarterfinal. Kaczor has 46 goals and 35 assists for 127 points for her career.

Midfielders

Camryn Johnson

School: Point Pleasant Boro

Year: Junior

Highlights

Johnson's goal on a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter gave Point Pleasant Borough a 1-0 win over Shore in the SCT final and its first SCT championship since 1989.

She had 17 goals and 14 assists on the season for 48 points. She had two games with three goals and two others with two goals.

Sylvie Notine

School: Rumson-Fair Haven

Year: Junior

Highlights:

Notine was a model of consistence as she scored in 20 of the Bulldogs' 21 matches.

She finished the season with 32 goals and 19 assists for 83 points. She had five goals against Holmdel and four goals against Middletown North. Notine also had three other matches where she had three goals.

Emma Haynes

School: Shore

Year: Sophomore

Highlights:

Haynes had an outstanding season for a team that advanced to both the SCT and NJSIAA Group 1 championship matches.

She had 18 goals and 31 assists for 67 points. Haynes had four games where she scored two goals and had a goal in 17 of Shore's 23 matches.

Haynes had 25 goals and 62 assists for 112 points for her career.

Jessica Bruther

School: Southern

Year: Senior

Highlights:

Bruther was a key player for a Southern team that advanced to both the SCT and NJSIAA South Group 4 semifinal.

She had 15 goals and 10 assists for 40 points. She had four matches where she had two goals, including in the Rams' 7-3 win over Vineland in a South Group 4 first round match.

Bruther finished with 28 goals and 27 assists for 83 points for her career.

Defenders

Rachael Tetzlaff

School: Toms River North

Year: Senior

Highlights:

Tetzlaff led Toms River North to both the Shore Conference Tournament and NJSIAA South Group 4 quarterfinal.

She had 52 points on 17 goals and 18 assists. She had three goals against Donovan Catholic and three other games where she had two goals.

Marin Stefanelli

School: Shore

Year: Freshman

Highlights:

Stefanelli was a key player on a team that allowed just 16 goals and recorded 14 shutouts.

She also contributed on offense. She had 10 goals and six assists for 26 points. Stefanelli had a hat trick against Howell.

Makenna Blozen

School: Middletown South

Year: Senior

Highlights:

Blozen led a Middletown South defense that allowed 28 goals in 22 matches.

She also had seven goals and 14 assists for 28 points. She had two goals in each of the Eagles' first two matches of the season.

Haley Fox

School: Point Pleasant Borough

Year: Sophomore

Highlights:

Fox led a Point Pleasant Borough defense that allowed just 15 goals and recorded 16 shutouts in 23 matches.

She also had seven goals and eight assists for 22 points. She had two goals against both Barnegat and St. Rose in Shore Conference Tournament matches and has 18 goals and 13 assists for 49 points in her career.

Goalkeeper

Teagan Harmon

School: Shore

Year: Junior

Highlights:

Harmon is one of the best goaltenders in the state. She had 109 saves and allowed just 16 goals on the season.

She had 17 and 13 saves in the Blue Devils' two matches against Point Pleasant Borough and three other matches where she had 10 saves or more.

Harmon has 275 saves for her career.

Player of the Year

Caroline DeKenipp, Point Pleasant Borough

Coach of the Year

Kelly Carr, Point Pleasant Borough

Carr, in her eight seasons, has turned the Point Borough program into a state power.

The Panthers won the Shore Conference Tournament this season for the first time since 1989 and have advanced to the SCT championship match the last two seasons.

Point Borough also had never won an NJSIAA sectional championship until the last two seasons, where they advanced to the Group 2 championship match in both seasons before being defeated by powerful West Essex.

FINAL TOP 20

1. Point Pleasant Borough (21-2):

The Panthers won the Shore Conference Tournament for the first time since 1989 with a 1-0 win over two-time defending champion Shore. They also defeated Shore in a regular season match. Point Pleasant Borough also advanced to the NJSIAA Group 2 championship match for the second consecutive season and won the Shore Conference Class A South divisional championship.

2. Shore (20-3):

The Blue Devils won the NJSIAA North Group 1 championship for their 30th sectional championship and advanced to the Group 1 championship match. Shore also advanced to the Shore Conference Tournament championship match and won the Shore Conference Class A Central divisional championship.

3. Rumson-Fair Haven (16-5):

The Bulldogs advanced to the NJSIAA North Group 2 championship match and the Shore Conference Tournament semifinal. They also won the Shore Conference Class A North championship.

4. Southern (11-6-1):

The Rams advanced to both the Shore Conference Tournament and NJSIAA South Group 4 semifinal. They also finished second in Shore Conference Class A South.

5. Middletown South (14-6-2):

The Eagles advanced to the NJSIAA North Group 3 semifinal and the Shore Conference Tournament quarterfinal and finished second in Shore Conference Class A North.

6. Toms River North (13-6):

The Mariners won matches in both the NJSIAA South Group 4 and Shore Conference Tournaments. They were defeated in the quarterfinal of both tournaments.

7. Central (11-5):

The Golden Eagles advanced to the Shore Conference Tournament quartefinal with a last-second win over Freehold Township before they were defeated by Shore.

8. St. Rose (10-4-2):

The Purple Roses advanced to the Shore Conference Tournament quarterfinal with a win over Toms River South and finished second in Shore Conference Class A Central.

9. Toms River South (10-7-1):

Toms River South was the No. 8 seed in the Shore Conference Tournament and won a match in the NJSIAA South Group 3 Tournament.

10. Freehold Township (10-8-1):

The Patriots won matches in both the NJSIAA South Group 4 and Shore Conference tournaments and were the No. 10 seed in the SCT

11. Lacey (8-8-1):

The Lions were the No. 11 seed in the SCT and won a match in that tournament before they were defeated by Toms River North.

12. Manasquan (14-5):

Manasquan won the Shore Conference Class B Central championship and won matches in both the SCT and NJSIAA South Group 2 tournaments.

13. Middletown North (13-7-1):

The Lions shared the Shore Conference Class B North championship with Trinty Hall and won a match in the Shore Conference Tournament.

14. Monmouth (13-8):

The Falcons were seeded 15th in the SCT and won a match in both that tournament and the South Group 2 Tournament.

15. Barnegat (9-8):

The Bengals defeated Colts Neck on penalty strokes as the No. 17 seed in the SCT.

16. Colts Neck (8-7-1):

The Cougars were the No. 16 seed in the SCT and competed in the tough Shore Conference Class A Central division.

17. Wall (4-8-1):

The Crimson Knights competed against one of the Shore's toughest schedules in Class A Central

18. Manalapan (8-9):

Manalapan won a SCT first round match as the No. 19 seed over No. 14 seed Trinity Hall.

19. Ocean (6-9):

The Spartans did go through the Class A Central gauntlet and opened their season with a win over Toms River South

20. Trinity Hall (10-8-1):

The Monarchs were the No. 14 seed in the SCT, shared the Class B North championshp with Middletown North and won a NJSIAA South Jersey Non Public first-round match.
