Shams: Former Celtic Isaiah Thomas inks 10-day deal with Pelicans

Beloved former Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas has made it back to the NBA with the Washington native inking a 10-day deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, per the Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Thomas played for the Celtics between 2015 and 2017 until a hip injury and pending free agency triggered the team’s front office to move him to the Cleveland Cavaliers for star point guard Kyrie Irving in the 2017 NBA offseason. IT would move around the league trying to find a home while playing through the hip injury without surgery he did not get until the pandemic gave him time to address.

Now, having made a return to the sort of burst and speed that he built his career on, Thomas has been looking for a way back into the league, with the Pelicans contract his first real post-operation opportunity.

While it isn’t the reunion with the Celtics many fans had hoped for, it’s still great to see the former Boston point guard back in the league playing the game he loves so much.
