Seth Davis predicts McNeese State basketball upsets Gonzaga in First Round of NCAA Tournament

Seth Davis made a bold prediction for McNeese State basketball in the NCAA Tournament.

The CBS analyst predicted the No. 12-seeded Cowboys (30-3) would upset No. 5 seed Gonzaga (25-7) in the Midwest Region in the first year under coach Will Wade. The game is scheduled for Thursday in Indianapolis.

"This is the part of the show I light myself on fire," Davis said. "I've got McNeese over Gonzaga."

McNeese State, located in Lake Charles, Louisiana, is one of four teams with 30 wins in the NCAA Tournament and ended the season on an 11-game winning streak. The Cowboys defeated Nicholls State 92-76 in the Southland Conference Tournament Championship on Wednesday to clinch the automatic berth.

The Cowboys, who are in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2002, were ranked No. 56 in NET Rankings and No. 60 in KenPom Rankings, going 1-0 in Quad 1 games. Davis went on to pick No. 13 seed Samford (29-5) over No. 4 Kansas (22-10), setting up a potential Second Round matchup between the 12 and 13 seeds.

"Samford takes down Kansas," Davis said. "With the injuries to Kansas, they were already not a deep team. Samford is an up-and-down team, they play 10 guys and the game is in Salt Lake City, where altitude is a factor."
