See the spectacular crash that handed Sir Ben Ainslie's British team an America's Cup semi-final race victory against New Zealand

This is the moment Emirates Team New Zealand suffered a spectacular capsize in their America’s Cup semi-final against Sir Ben Ainslie’s Land Rover BAR team.

Three of the Kiwi boat’s sailors were thrown overboard but all were unharmed as Great Britain claimed victory to claw themselves back into contention.

Ainslie’s crew trail 3-1 in Bermuda after they broke a wing on the first day of the last-four clash for the right to face the defending champions from the USA.

“In 30 years of racing I’ve never seen anything like that,” said skipper Ainslie, who is the most successful sailor in Olympic history after claiming four gold medals for Team GB.

“Most importantly everyone is fine. It’s the first time we have sailed in this much wind. It’s full-on and it’s mind-blowing.

“All of us sitting here are not going to pass criticism – these boats are incredibly hard to sail and these things can happen.”

Britain will resume their bid to reach the final on Bermuda’s Great Sound later on Wednesday, although high winds could force another postponement.

New Zealand were working through the night to repair the damage to the boat, which is worth around £7million, and will be praying for extra time to complete the job.
