See who made the Lafayette Journal & Courier's 2023 big school all-area softball team

The Lafayette Journal & Courier's all-area softball teams are comprised of players from the Greater Lafayette area.

Coaches are asked to nominate players from their own team, then a ballot is sent out asking those coaches to vote on the nominated players.

The Journal & Courier's Big School All-Area team is made up of players from Class 3A and 4A programs.

Kylie Dugan, Harrison (Player of the Year)

The senior left fielder was perhaps more valuable on defense, where she showcased numerous highlight-reel plays, but also was an offensive leader for the Raiders, who repeated as regional champions. The third-team all-state selection and Indiana North All-Star hit .470 with six doubles and drove in 22 runs. Dugan had a .589 on-base percentage, stole 24 bases and scored a remarkable 61 runs.

Carlie Cox, Lafayette Jeff

The senior shortstop hit .495 with 12 doubles, four triples and three home runs, while reaching base in nearly 55 percent of her plate appearances. Cox also stole 28 bases, drove in 23 runs and scored 42 times while fielding at better than 90 percent.

Whitney Duell, Harrison

The junior second baseman owned a .966 fielding percentage. Offensively, Duell stole 14 bases, hit .397 and reached base in 41.2 percent of her plate appearances. She had seven doubles, 26 runs batted in and scored 35 times.

Ashley Dunk, Harrison

The sophomore shortstop hit .402 with nine doubles, five triples and three home runs, driving in 31 to go with 29 runs scored. Dunk collected a .465 on-base percentage and fielded at a 92 percent rate.

Rylan Gick, Harrison

The junior pitcher stepped up at a position of need and compiled a 14-4 record with two saves and a 2.43 earned run average. Gick struck out 173 and walked just 38 in 132 1/3 innings.

Bree Johnson, West Lafayette

The sophomore first baseman produced a perfect season defensively with zero errors in addition to a .427 batting average with one home run, 36 runs batted in and 12 stolen bases.

Ava Mobley, Harrison

The junior catcher cranked five home runs, 10 doubles and two triples, hitting .396 and driving in 48 runs. Mobley was nearly flawless behind the plate with a .995 fielding percentage and also reached base in better than 51 percent of her plate appearances.

Chelsea Parker, Harrison

The junior first baseman led the Raiders with 42 runs batted in, hitting .466 with 10 doubles, five triples and one home run. Parker also scored 35 runs and reached base at a .517 clip while committing zero errors defensively on the season.

Piper Ramey, North Montgomery

The Charger sophomore produced a .519 batting average with 11 doubles, two triples and four home runs, driving in 37 runs and scoring 38 more. Ramey reached base at a .580 rate and fielding at better than 98 percent. She also struck out 104 and walked 39 in 90 1/3 innings in the circle.

Maggie Robbins, McCutcheon

The senior shortstop capped her career by being named third-team all-state and competing for the North All-Star team after hitting .429 with four home runs and a .925 fielding percentage. Robbins also stole 20 bases and scored 32 runs.

Hayley Smith, McCutcheon

The senior second baseman clubbed three home runs and reached base in nearly 52 percent of her plate appearances while owning a .444 batting average.

Christina Susdorf, Crawfordsville

The lone freshman on the list owned a .970 fielding percentage behind the plate while leading the Athenians' offense with a .397 batting average, nine doubles, one triple and two home runs. Susdorf scored 16 runs and drove in 24 more while stealing nine bases.

Adrianne Tolen, West Lafayette

The junior shortstop set a Red Devil single-season record with 41 runs batted in to go with a .531 on-base percentage, 33 runs scored, five home runs and a .480 batting average.

Taylor Van Meter, Rensselaer

The sophomore center fielder had a .483 on-base percentage and a .410 batting average, hitting eight doubles and one home run for the Bombers.

McKenna Wilson, Twin Lakes

The senior pitcher struck out 165 to just 47 walks in 142 1/3 innings while having a perfect fielding percentage. Offensively, Wilson hit .273 with one home run, 14 runs batted in and a .410 on-base percentage.
