Section V football: Monroe adds to historic shutout rout streak to reach championship

The Monroe Red Jackets offense have scored plenty of points during this high school football season, sometimes record-setting amounts.

The same thing happened on Saturday, but the Monroe defense also has something it can brag about.

Monroe moved into the Section V Class B championship game for the second consecutive season after the tournament's No. 1 seed shut out its seventh opponent this fall, No. 4 Wayne 42-0.

No team has scored against Monroe since Sept. 8 at Honeoye Falls-Lima. Also, Geneva forfeited to Monroe during the final week of the regular season.

Monroe senior Robert Arnold returned a punt that he blocked 18 yards for a touchdown, had a 37-yard touchdown catch and five tackles, including a sack.

'My sophomore year the program was good, but we weren't as good as we are now. It just grew, the people and the team" - third-year Monroe varsity player Dashon Constantine.

"It's going to be a little more, how should I say this, problems. It should be a tight one. I think we have the pieces to get the job done" - Constantine on the Red Jackets playing in the sectional final.

"It was expected, we definitely expected to get back there (to the Section V Class B final). It was one of our goals. We look forward to the opportunity to be successful and victorious." - Monroe coach Terrell Cunningham.

What's next

For Monroe, the Section V Class B Tournament Final, 8 p.m. Nov. 11 at SUNY Brockport, where the Red Jackets face Honeoye Falls-Lima (8-2). The Wayne Eagles are 5-4.
