Seacoast roundup: Emery's second goal gives Winnacunnet boys hockey OT win over Spaulding

EXETER - Brayden Emery scored two goals, his second proved to be the game-winner with 5:11 left in overtime, lifting the Winnacunnet High School boys hockey team to a 4-3 Division II thrilling win over Spaulding Saturday night at Philips Exeter Academy.

Winnacunnet remains undefeated at 4-0, while Spaulding moves to 1-2-1.

"A really good win for us, the kids really competed," Winnacunnet head coach Paul Kinnaly said. "That's a good Spaulding team, well coached. We fell a little bit behind, we had the advantage in the shot department and kind of just continued to stick with it and chip away at it."

Winnacunnet senior Brady Thompson scored the game-tying goal with 7 minutes left in regulation. Nolan Rennie also scored for the Warriors. Thompson and sophomore Alec Mitchell both had one assist for the Warriors.

Anthony Allen, Ryan Dube and Tyler Jean all scored a goal for the Red Raiders, while Trevor Brennan and Dube each had one assist.

DOVER - Talon Beyer had three goals and one assist as Oyster River improved to 3-1 with this Division II win at Dover Ice Arena.

Braiden Moriarty, Liam Eddy, Cam Miner and Nolan Walsh also scored for the Bobcats, who outshot STA, 32-18.  Oyster River goalie Harper Hubbard had 15 saves, while counterpart Eli Allaire had 25.

Jackson Estes scored all three of St. Thomas' goals.

Portsmouth/Newmarket 2

Dover 2

DOVER - Tyler Buchanon's goal for Dover with 7:59 left in the second period tied this Division II game at 2-2 at Dover Ice Arena.

Owen Wood also scored for Dover, while Cal Rothstein, from Max Durkin, and Johnny Forrest, from Ben Purcell, scored for Portsmouth.

Somersworth/Coe-Brown 9

Monadnock/ConVal 1

KEENE - Tully Keefe had three goals and one assist for Somersworth/Coe-Brown in this Division II win at Keene Ice Arena.

AJ Kozlowski added two goals for the Bearcats, while Aidan Tibbetts, Giovanni Green, James Sawyer all had a goal and an assist.

Dylan Burovac also scored in the win, while teammates J.R. Norris and Landon Midwood both had two assists.

Somersworth/Coe-Brown goalie Caleb Jobin had 15 saves.

Windham/Westbrook/Bonny Eagle 3

Marshwood/Noble/Traip/Sanford 2, OT

DOVER - Zac Camp and Ayden Lockard each scored a goal for Marshwood (3-5) in its Class A loss at Dover Ice Arena. Marshwood goalie Connor Lentz had 22 saves.

GORHAM, Maine - Josh Neal scored an unassisted goal for York in its Class B South loss at the University of Southern Maine Arena.

York goalie Aidan McQuaide had 17 saves.

KEENE - Kira Jakobs had three goals and one assist and teammate Emma Sahr also had a hat trick for Oyster River/Portsmouth in its Division I win at Keene Ice Arena.

Maeve Harney also scored in the win.

YORK, Maine - Derek Parsons had 19 points, and Reece Macdonald and Ryan Cummins had 16 and 14, respectively, for York (8-1) in its Class B South win.

Lukas Bouchard added 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Wildcats.

KITTERY, Maine - Nick Martine had 16 points for Traip Academy in this loss.

NAPLES, Maine - McKayla Kortes led three Wildcats in double figures in this Class B South win.

Kortes had a team-high 14 points, while Ava Brent had 13, and Nya Avery 10.

Duffy leads Winnacunnet to seven-team meet win

PLYMOUTH - Senior Oliver Duffy won both the long jump (21 feet, 8.75 inches) and 55-meter hurdles (8.2), and was third in the high jump (5-10), leading Winnacunnet to 86 points and a win at a seven-team meet at Plymouth State University.

Oyster River was second with 74 points, while Exeter (64), Portsmouth (64), Dover (37), Spaulding (24) and St. Thomas Aquinas (15) rounded out the scoring.

The Winnacunnet 4x200 relay team, consisting of Brady Corcoran, Owen Janetos, Ryan Jamison, and Duffy, placed first in 1:37.5; and the 4x400 team, comprised of Ryan Zumbach, Nick Bonesho, Sully Duffy, and Nathan Dillon, placed second (3:49.49).

Jamison was also second in the 55 hurdles (8.4) and fifth in the high jump (5-8).

Other top-five Winnacunnet performances came from Zumbach (600, second, 1:27.95), Janetos (55, second, 6.94), Erik Marelli (55 hurdles, third, 8.51), Corcoran (55, fourth, 6.98), Ben Mace (300, fourth, 39.95) and Nathan Dillon (600, fifth, 1:33.76).

Portsmouth won the 4x400 relay as Theo Beattie, Sam Biddle, Nicol Ranalli and Will Hart had a time of 3:47.46.

The Clippers’ 4x200 relay team, consisting of Beattie, Briggs Catino, Ethan Lander, Leo Guarracino placed second in 1:41.16.

Portsmouth’s other top-five performers include Nolan Peters (1,500, second, 4:25.05), Catino (300, second, 38.31), Guarracino (55, third, 6.97), Lander (300, third, 39.71), Luke Boynton (100, third, 3:08.19), Beattie (600, fourth, 1:32.83), Wilder Carrigan (1,000, fifth, 3:10.36) and Josh Kelly (55 hurdles, fifth, 8.71).

Portsmouth Christian sets two school records

DARTMOUTH - The Portsmouth Christian Academy distance medley team, consisting of Jonas Teeter, Christian Barnes, Ivan Sturgis and Tim Kelm, broke the school record by 30 seconds with a time of 11 minutes, 26.81 seconds at the Dartmouth Relays.

Sturgis also broke his own school mark in the 600 (1:29.7).

GIRLS TRACK

Jenkins leads Portsmouth to win

PLYMOUTH – Lily Jenkins won two events and led Portsmouth to a win at the seven-team New Hampshire Winter Track League meet at Plymouth State University.

Portsmouth scored a team-best 96 points. Exeter (88), Oyster River (76), Dover (57), Winnacunnet (43), Newmarket (6) and Spaulding (5) rounded out the field. 

Jenkins won the 55 (7.46 seconds) and 300 (43.60). Teammate Mariam Nada won the long jump (16 feet, 4.25 inches) was second in the 55 hurdles (8.95) and third in the 55 (7.67).

Portsmouth’s 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Avery Timerman, Sylvia Guarracino, Ella Carter and Jenkins, placed first in a time of 1:54.29. The 4x400 relay, featuring Sarah Sokolnicki, Ginger Vinciguerra, Lily Patterson, and Maddy Houghton, placed second in 4:27.34.

Other top-five showings from Portsmouth came from Liv Russo (high jump, second, 4-8), Timerman (600, third, 1:46.29), Emma Lander (high jump, third, 4-6), Maria Akaluno (shot put, third, 28-1), Houghton (600, fourth, 1:49.07) and Kelsey Campbell (1,000, fifth, 3:22.79).

Winnacunnet senior Hayden Adams was second in the long jump (15-10.5), third in the 55 hurdles (9.49) and fourth in the shot put (25-10). Other top-five WHS performances came from Moxie Clifford (300, fourth, 47.1), Carson Mariotti (fifth, 1,500, 5:18.34) and McKinley Fowler (300, fifth, 47.03).

Winnacunnet’s 4x200 relay team, consisting of Adams, Moxie Clifford, Isabel Needham, and Maitri Clifford, was second in 1:54.72; the 4x400 team, featuring Isla Christie, Maeve Ouellette, Hayren Reynoso-Santana, and Liana Pacheco, was third (1:54.72).

PORTSMOUTH - Kian Chan won both the 200 IM (2:46.5) and 100 butterfly (1:16.79), leading Portsmouth in this dual meet.

Portsmouth's Daniel Sabalakov won the 200 freestyle (2:42.04), and the quartet of Miles Borne, Andrew Franas, Jacob Knowles and Sabalakov won the 400 freestyle relay (4:54.06).

PORTSMOUTH - Portsmouth's Emily Stokel placed first in the 200 freestyle (2:32.40) and was followed by teammates Aiofe Ryan and Olivia Annunziata Blaisdell in this dual meet.

Portsmouth's Melia Dunn-Bolanos (1:29.15) and Sophie Berling (1:30.1) placed first and second, respectively in the 100 backstroke.

Portsmouth's 400 freestyle relay team, consisting of Evelyn Wilkinson, Ryan, Annunziata Blaisdell, and Stokel capturing the win in 5:15.08.
