Scotto: Josh Richardson also drew interest from Boston Celtics before Heat reunion

The Boston Celtics were among teams interested in signing veteran guard Josh Richardson according to reporting from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

Per the Hoopshype reporter, “Richardson also drew interest from the Minnesota Timberwolves and Boston.”

The Celtics’ limited spending power doesn’t seem to have been an obstacle. While the team had only the $5 million mini-MLE available, Richardson signed a two-season, $6 million deal with the Miami Heat. That the Celtics had traded him to his last franchise — the San Antonio Spurs — as part of the package that landed Derrick White in Boston may not have been among the selling points in the Celtics’ favor.

Boston has reportedly been active in pursuing backcourt players since the start of the league’s 2023 free agency period, which could hint at designs on shaking up the team’s backcourt — or strengthening its depth after the loss of Marcus Smart in the Kristaps Porzingis deal.
