Scottish Open betting: Is this the weekend for Will Zalatoris' first PGA Tour win?

Bettors are taking note of Will Zalatoris’ recent performance.

Zalatoris is the most-bet golfer at BetMGM ahead of Thursday’s Scottish Open. The tournament is the unofficial warmup for the British Open and is run as part of a partnership between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in 2022. That arrangement means that many of the PGA Tour’s top golfers are already across the Atlantic as they prepare for the final major of the season.

Zalatoris has come close in the last two majors. He lost in a playoff to Justin Thomas at the PGA Championship in May and missed a putt on the final hole to force a playoff with Matt Fitzpatrick at the U.S. Open in June. Zalatoris is getting 7.3% of wagers to win the tournament and those bets make up 8.2% of the handle. After opening at +3000, Zalatoris’ odds are down to +2500 on the eve of the tournament.

Fitzpatrick is getting the most money of any golfer at 11% on fewer than 6% of bets. Fitzpatrick is the fourth-most bet golfer on the board behind Zalatoris, Scottie Scheffler and Cam Smith.

Scheffler is tied for the No. 2 favorite at +1400 with Thomas. They’re behind Jon Rahm at +1200 as four of the world’s top five golfers are in the field. World No. 4 and defending British Open champion Collin Morikawa is at +2800 to win the Scottish Open. Morikawa has the same odds as Smith and Sam Burns.

Rahm is at +250 to finish in the top five and +125 to finish in the top 10 while Thomas is +135 to get a top 10 along with Scheffler. Scheffler is the slight favorite to be the top finishing American in the tournament at +650. Thomas is at +700 while Xander Schauffele is at +900 to be the top American and Patrick Cantlay is at +1200 along with Zalatoris.

Fitzpatrick is the favorite to be the highest-finishing English golfer at +250 ahead of Tommy Fleetwood at +550 and Tyrrell Hatton at +650. Justin Rose is at +800 while Ian Poulter is the No. 7 English favorite at +1400.

Poulter is one of four LIV Tour golfers in the field after a ruling that prevented him and others from playing in the tournament was stayed in court. Poulter, Branden Grace, Justin Harding and Adrian Otaegui are in the field after the ruling and are playing in twosomes at the front of each of the morning and afternoon waves across the first two days.

Here are the favorites ahead of the tournament. Tee times begin at 2:15 a.m. ET on Thursday.
