Schroeder takes the reins of WSU volleyball program
Jan. 6—Washington State Athletic Director Pat Chun named Korey Schroeder as the program's head volleyball coach on Friday.
Schroeder will be the Cougars' 13th coach in modern program history.
The Kaukauna, Wis., native spent last year as an assistant coach at Washington State under Jen Greeny, who oversaw the program for 13 seasons.
Greeny left Pullman to coach the Big 12's West Virginia on Dec. 20. The Davenport, Wash., native led the Cougars to the NCAA tournament for eight consecutive seasons, compiled a 235-175 record and made two trips to the Sweet 16, including one this fall.
This past season, Schroeder helped the Cougars finish 26-8 overall while posting seven Top-25 wins and reaching a ranking of No. 4 nationally.
"We are excited to name Korey as our head volleyball coach," Chun said in a news release. "Korey brings a new energy and passion for WSU volleyball. It was clear throughout this year he had earned the respect of our team and was a key component in the overall success of this past season. We look forward to watching Korey lead and build our volleyball program."
Schroeder was also very involved with the analytics for Washington State last season. He organized databases, created recruiting content, ran statistical analyses of the Cougars and future opponents to benefit match planning. He also used NeuroFuel for improved mental performance during practice and match play.

"Thank you to Pat Chun and (Deputy Director of Athletics/SWA) Anne McCoy for giving me their confidence and supporting me throughout this process. In my first year at Washington State, the energy I have felt from the Pullman community, Cougar fans, and the individuals within the Washington State Athletic Department has been phenomenal. They are all reasons why Pullman feels like home, and it is the same reason our student-athletes love their experience at Washington State. We have a group of high-character players returning next season, and I am excited to build on the foundation we will create together this spring."
Before arriving to the Palouse, Schroeder spent five seasons as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB).
He led the Phoenix to three 20-win seasons, which started with a Horizon League championship in 2018 and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. UWGB's 2018 tournament bid was its first since 2003. The Pheonix's 23 wins were also the most they've had in a single season since '03.
As a player, he helped UW-Platteville get off to its best start in program history (7-0) before the team finished above .500 for the first time since 2012.
Schroeder began his coaching career at Newman Catholic High School in Wausau, Wis. In his two seasons there, he led the team to two state championships in 2015 and 2016. He coached a pair of all-state players and compiled an all-time record of 74-8.
In high school, Schroeder was an all-state selection in 2009 for Kaukauna (Wis.) High School.
