Eagles 4, Pine Island 0
The No. 3-seeded Eagles downed No. 1 seed Pine Island 4-0 in the championship game of the Division II American Legion Southeast Sub-State West Division playoffs, riding a three-hitter by pitcher Cameron Powell.
Powell went the distance for his team, which moved to 8-3 overall and has earned a spot in next week's Southeast District tournament.
Powell was aided by two doubles plays turned by the Eagles' defense and Sam Stanley, who tracked down two fly balls for outs that had been hit in the gaps.
Alex Rudquist had a pair of hits for the Eagles, including a double.
—Pine Island went on to defeat Adams 7-6 in the losers-bracket championship, also advancing it to the Southeast District tournament.
—In the East Division, La Crescent beat Chatfield 14-2 in five innings in the championship. Chatfield then beat Plainview 16-6 in the losers-bracket final. Both La Crescent and Chatfield advance to the Southeast District tournament.
