Saturday Roundup: River View girls win Bakers Classic; Tri-Valley boys swimmers claim sectional title

Here's a look around the area of Saturday's results:

Bowling

River View girls win TCC Bakers Classic: The Lady Bears qualified in first place then defeated Sandy Valley 2-0 in the semifinals and West Holmes 2-0 in the finals to claim the team title at Wabash Lanes.

The Lady Bears rolled games of 201 and 178 to sweep the championship match against West Holmes and become the 2024 TCC Bakers Classic Champions. The Lady Bears Bakers' team consisted of senior Joni Winland, junior Maeve Gentile, sophomore Kylan Wesney and freshmen Kaylie Bryan, Karley Stocker, Ali Chilcote and Madison Bryan.

Girls Basketball

West Muskingum 48, New Lexington 44: Laney Johnson and Jayden Thornton scored 10 points each as the Tornadoes (19-3, 14-2) trailed 15-7 after one quarter before taking the lead late in the fourth to cap the Muskingum Valley League season with a win.

Taylor Spung scored the go-ahead basket in the final minute and Allen made two free throws to seal it for West M.

Thornton and Johnson combined for 12 points in the second half for West M, which was down 27-21 at the half and 34-31 after three quarters. Allen also had eight points, Lyla Johnson seven and Spung six for a balanced effort.

Chloe Dick led the Panthers (13-9, 11-5) with 25 points, including four 3s. Makenzy McCoy had seven points and Trinity Cook and Abby Wilson added six points each.

Crooksville 58, Coshocton 22: Brynn Lundell scored nine of her 17 points in the first quarter, as the Ceramics (6-15, 5-11) led 16-5 after one quarter in a MVL Small School Division win.

Meg Mumford and Sonni Nelson each made three 3s and scored 11 points, Emma Taylor added nine points and Lexi Van Meter chipped in eight in a balanced effort for Crooksville, which was up 27-13 at the half.

Isabelle Lauvray led the Redskins (0-22, 0-16) with 15 points.

Maysville 49, River View 33: Jerzei Blackketter scored 15 points and Emily Lawson finished with 12, as the Panthers (6-15, 3-13) topped the Lady Bears in MVL Big School play.

Miley Fulkerson and Liv Shipley added seven points each for Maysville, which led 26-17 at the half after the game was tied at 8 after the first quarter.

Elaina Brenly's nine points paced River View (3-18, 3-13).

Maysville reserves won 45-23, as Rachel Gundelfinger had 11 points. Alyssa Fox scored eight for River View.

Tri-Valley 55, Philo 29: MacKenzie Harvey drilled five 3s on her way to 23 points, helping the Scotties (15-7, 13-3) end the regular season with a MVL Big School win.

Maddie Garber contributed eight points and Annika Collet, Addison Wilson and Kylan Brock had six points apiece for Tri-Valley, which held leads of 18-5 after one quarter and 28-11 at the half.

Bailey Dement scored 13 points and Halli Harris had five steals to lead the Electrics (12-10, 7-9).

Morgan 47, Meadowbrook 43 (OT): Myleigh Williams scored five straight points in overtime to give the host Raiders a win over the Colts in Small School action.

Gianna Myers led Morgan (8-13, 7-9) with 14 points and 11 steals, Williams added 12 points and Ellie Parsons had nine points and eight rebounds as the game was tied at 36 at the end of regulation.

Kenli Norman had 14 of her 24 points in the first half for the Colts (9-12, 7-9), who led 22-19 at the half but trailed 27-25 entering the fourth. Emma Webster added nine points in the loss.

Ridgewood 45, Buckeye Trail 39: Kya Masloski collected 13 points, as the Generals (16-5) outlasted the Warriors (8-14) in the Inter-Valley Showcase after the game was tied at 17 at the half.

Kierston Latham added 12 points and Tarryn Morris chipped in nine for Ridgewood.

Licking Heights 47, Zanesville 32: The Lady Devils (3-19, 2-12) fell on the road to the Hornets to close out Licking County League play.

Boys Basketball

Heath 47, Sheridan 43: Raine Rodich and Evan Anderson scored 15 points each, as the Generals (12-8) fell on the road to the Bulldogs.

Swimming

Tri-Valley boys win sectional title: The Scotties tallied 361.5 points to St. Clairsville's 254 points to claim the boys team title, while the River View girls came in second (254) to Dover, which had 291 points.

The Coshocton girls were fifth (184), while the Maysville and River View boys were sixth (134) and seventh (123), respectively.

District qualifiers will be announced on Sunday, but event winners were automatic qualifiers.

AJ Lawler won the 200 yard IM (2:03.76) and 100 backstroke (54.95) to lead the Tri-Valley boys. Lawler, Owen Harney, Carter Dinan and Dallin Stirling placed second in the 200 medley relay; Aiden Lentz, Sam Wegner, Dallin Stirling and Dinan took second in the 200 free relay; Lentz, Kollin Buckner, Sam Wegner and Lawler were second in the 400 free relay; Wegner and Dallin Stirling placed second and fourth in the 200 freestyle, Wegner and Garrett Stirling were second and fourth in the 500 free, Harney placed third in the 100 breaststroke, Dinan was fifth in the 50 free and Buckner was fifth in the 200 IM.

Maysville's Leila Hawk won the girls 200 freestyle (2:06.34) and 500 free (5:36), while Tillman Hawk claimed the boys 500 free with a winning time of 5:26.94 and Owen Rusnak, Elijah Mayle, Casen Hirtle and Hawk were fourth in the boys 400 free relay.

Sophia McFadden took second in the 50 free, Courtney Snyder, Cady Jackson, Gabriella Wesney and McFadden came in third in the 200 free and 400 free relays and fourth in the 200 medley relay, Snyder came in fourth in the 100 back, Wesney was fifth in the 500 free to lead the Coshocton girls.

Riley Gottardi won the 100 backstroke (1:09.6) with Ally Fischer in second to highlight the River View girls' effort. Gottardi, Britany Hammond, Lily Grewell and Fischer placed second in the 400 free relay, Fischer, Grewell, Gottardi and Kam McGinnis were second in the 200 medley relay, Gottardi placed third in the 100 butterfly, Grewell took third in the 100 breaststroke and Grewell and Fischer came in fourth and fifth in the 200 IM.

Colin Addy paced the Black Bear boys with a second in the 50 free and a third in the 100 free, while he joined Kyle Roach, JT Allison and Jamison Adams for third in the 200 free relay and fifth in the 400 free relay and Adams took fourth in the 100 back.

John Glenn's Sarah Gardinsky was fifth in the girls 100 back to highlight area top-five finishers.

The Tri-Valley girls competed in the Division I sectional at Marion. Jesi Fuhriman placed fourth in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 breaststroke, Mia Fuhriman, Savannah Brooks, Sarah Jacoby and Jesi Fuhriman came in fourth in the 200 free relay in a school-record time of 1:44.01, Dani Stewart, Mia Fuhriman, Jesi Fuhriman and Jacoby were sixth in the 200 medley relay, Brooks was seventh in the 100 free, Stewart was eighth in the 500 free, and Jacoby, Gabby Hensel, Stewart and Brooks were eighth in the 400 free relay.
