2023 SARTA High School Athlete of the Week

Athletes from Minerva and Canton South high schools won the voting for the SARTA Athlete of the Week for Oct. 30-Nov. 4.

Katie Ison of Minerva is the girls winner and Tavon Castle of Canton South wins for the boys. Ison runs cross country and received 53.39% of the votes cast. Castle plays football and received 60.02% of the votes cast. Ison is the first Minerva athlete to win the vote this season, while Castle is the fourth Canton South athlete and second Wildcat football player to win the vote.

A total of 6,432 votes were cast overall.

The junior led the way for the Minerva Lions to win their second Division II state championship in three seasons. She finished a team-best 17th in the Division II race in a time of 18:59.40. She helped Minerva also win county, league, district and regional titles this fall.

The senior recorded a key interception and caught the go-ahead touchdown in Canton South's 27-26 playoff win over Buchtel. After earning All-Ohio honors a year ago, he's on pace to repeat that honor for the 12-0 Wildcats. He finished the regular season with 77 catches for 1,199 yards and 13 TDs.
