2023 SARTA High School Athlete of the Week

Athletes from McKinley and Massillon high schools won the voting for the SARTA Athlete of the Week for Dec. 3-9.

Mya Taylor of McKinley is the girls winner and Chris Knight of Massillon wins for the boys. They each play basketball. Taylor received 31.93% of the votes cast. Knight received 36.82% of the votes cast.

Taylor is the first McKinley girls athlete to win the vote and second Bulldog athlete overall to win. Knight is the third straight Massillon boys athlete to win the vote and sixth Tiger overall since late October. All of the previous five were members of the state championship football team.

The sophomore scored 19 points in a 46-35 win over Hoover and 17 in a 41-36 loss to Jackson last week. She followed that up with 31 points and four 3-pointers in a loss to unbeaten Lake on Wednesday.

Chris Knight, Massillon basketball

The junior scored 59 points for the Tigers in two wins to open the season a week ago. He scored 30 Saturday in a win over Cuyahoga Falls, making five 3-pointers, one night after scoring 29 and making three 3s against St. Thomas Aquinas.
