SARTA Athlete of the Week Aug. 21-27 | Marissa Zaleski, Poochie Snyder win the vote
Canton South High School athletes swept the voting for the SARTA Athlete of the Week for Aug. 21-27.
Marissa Zaleski is the inaugural girls winner and Poochie Snyder wins for the boys. Zaleski, a tennis standout, received 41.79% percent of the vote to win. Snyder, a record-setting quarterback, won the boys vote with 35.85% of the vote. More than 2,000 votes were cast for each ballot.

Marissa Zaleski, Canton South girls tennis
The junior won all three of her matches at first singles for the Wildcats last week against Kidron Central Christian, Lake and Manchester. The 3-0 week improved her overall record to 6-1 this season at first singles. Last year, as a sophomore, she qualified for the Division II district tournament in doubles with teammate Emily Thompson.
Poochie Snyder, Canton South boys football
The senior threw for 344 yards and four touchdowns in a 50-40 win over Dover last Friday. He completed 25 of 33 passes, and was intercepted twice. He added 91 yards rushing and two more TDs on 13 carries. A four-year starter who will graduate with assorted school records, Snyder led Stark County with 3,567 yards passing and 35 TDs last year to go along with 1,156 rushing and another 21 scores.
