Sanderson Farms Championship betting odds: Our picks from PGA Tour stop in Mississippi

The conclusion of last week’s Ryder Cup signals a restart of the PGA Tour schedule, meaning there is money to be made for those interested in betting.

The Country Club of Jackson is the site for the Sanderson Farms Championship – the second tournament in the FedEx Cup Fall schedule.

Paired with an $8.2 million purse, this year’s tournament comes with added pressure. As part of the revamped PGA schedule, the seven fall events bring plenty of incentive for those hovering around the top 125 as they look to secure exempt status into Full-Field Events and a spot in The Players.

With so much at stake, the Sanderson Farms Championship is far from an exhibition – meaning it’s worth testing the betting waters. Here’s a look at who we like this year, along with other golfers worth sprinkling money on.

The favorite: Ludvig Aberg (+1100 to win)

One of the biggest stars from the Ryder Cup has elected to play in Jackson, and the odds makers are behind him. Ludvig Aberg – a Swedish golfer who paired up with Viktor Hovland for a historic 9 and 7 win against Americans Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka – enters with +1100 odds to win, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

Aberg is four months removed from his professional debut and was busy winning a Big 12 individual title for Texas Tech in April. His success in the Ryder Cup has quickly elevated his stardom in the sport.

The defending champ: Mackenzie Hughes

Mackenzie Hughes (+6500 to win) could be an intriguing longshot considering he won the tournament last year. However, the Canadian hasn’t had much success since then.

Hughes has had just one other top 10 finish this season, has missed 11 of 25 cuts and withdrew from the Travelers Championship. But if you’re someone who believes Hughes could find his groove by returning to a place he’s succeeded, it could be worth taking a chance.

The tournament hasn't seen a back-to-back winner since Dwight Nevil in 1973 and 1974

Longshot worth the odds: Mark Hubbard

Mark Hubbard (+5000 to win) has been hit-or-miss for the past six months. He sandwiched a missed cut at the Zurich Classic in April between top 20 finishes. In May, he started a stretch of two top 10 finishes in three tournaments, but he followed that up with a pair of missed cuts. That was followed by another two top 10 finishes and two more missed cuts.

He finished tied for 17th in the Fortinet Championship before a couple weeks off. If the promising edition of Hubbard shows up in Jackson, he’s worth the odds.

Mega longshot worth the odds: Jason Dufner

Jason Dufner (+35000 to win) has had a rough season with 16 missed cuts in 28 events. However, he’s had three top-30 finishes in his last four tournaments.

Sitting at No. 156 in the FexEx Cup, moving up to earn conditional PGA Tour status gives Dufner plenty to play for.

Top 20 picks: Emiliano Grillo, Lee Hodges, Davis Riley

The odds aren’t eye-popping but at plus-money could be worth it.

Emiliano Grillo (+130) finished fifth in the event last year. Lee Hodges (+180) finished in the top 30 last year and has a pair of top-15 finishes in his last five events – including a win at the 3M Open in late July.

Davis Riley (+190), a Hattiesburg native, finished tied for 19th last year. While he hasn’t finished in the top 20 since winning the Zurich Classic with partner Nick Hardy, perhaps Riley can find a groove in his home state.

My pick: S.H. Kim (+3000)

S.H. Kim (+3000 to win) started a rough stretch in late June, missing the cut in five of seven tournaments. However, he finished second at the Fortinet Championship.

If he can get a good start Thursday and maintain some of that momentum, he'll be competing at the top of the leaderboard deep into the weekend.
