Salary cap savings after the release of CB Arthur Maulet

On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers notified slot cornerback Arthur Maulet he was being released. Maulet was the team’s primary slot receiver in 2022 ad an excellent run defender and blitzer.

The release of the Maulet frees up $1.79 million in salary cap space. This is money Pittsburgh could use to fill one of its other roster needs. The Steelers still need to find another edge rusher in free agency and could consider a coverage inside linebacker as well.

Pittsburgh signed veteran slot cornerback Chandon Sullivan on the third day of the 2023 NFL draft, presumably to be Maulet’s replacement but look for Pittsburgh to use a variety of lineups in the secondary this season.
