Saints trade for longtime 49ers LB Haralson
It did not take the New Orleans Saints very long to find a replacement for linebacker Will Smith, who suffered a season-ending injury Saturday.
On Monday, the Saints acquired longtime San Francisco 49ers linebacker Parys Haralson, according to multiple media reports.
Because the trade wasn't officially announced, it wasn't immediately known what the Saints gave up for the 29-year-old veteran. However, the Sacramento Bee reported that the 49ers would receive a seventh-round draft pick if Haralson makes New Orleans' roster.
Haralson was a sixth-round pick out of Tennessee in the 2006 NFL Draft and had spent his entire career in San Francisco. He suffered a torn triceps tendon last year in the preseason and missed the entire 2012 regular season.
He did start all 16 games in 2011.
When asked on Monday about the trade, Haralson only said, "I'm outta here."
"He was a good mentor, taught me a lot and best of luck to him in New Orleans," said Aldon Smith, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Smith replaced Haralson last season and recorded a franchise-record 19 1/2 sacks.
