Rutgers women’s soccer finishes season No. 3 in the nation

A tremendous and historic season for Rutgers women’s soccer ended on Friday night in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. But Rutgers strong finish to to the season as well as their regular season dominance saw them through to an impressive ranking.

In the recently released United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Division I poll this week, the Scarlet Knights finished the season No. 3 in the nation. Rutgers was one of four programs to receive first place votes.

They lost in the semifinals 1-0 to Florida State, the team that won the national championship and finished atop the poll. BYU, who lost in the championship game, finished second.

Other notables in the final ranking includes No. 7 Michigan (who beat Rutgers in the Big Ten Championship Game) as well as fellow Big Ten sides No. 23 Penn State and No. 24 Purdue.

Texas Christian University, who Rutgers beat in the Sweet 16, finished ninth. Arkansas, defeated by Rutgers in the quarterfinals, was sixth in Tuesday’s ranking.
